CROMARTIE Principal Seniors of 1962 - This is your year. Some years ago you thought that it would never come. Then, suddenly, it has come, it lingers for a very short time, seemingly, and then almost suddenly it has passed. This is the way of life. We work long and hard for our goals, then if we are diligent and remain, while many of our group drop away, we find that for which we have worked is within our grasp and is upon us. Then in our hour of triumph we would like for time to stand still for a while for us so that we could rest for a time on our laurels. But this is not so for time moves on and we must work for those goals which are higher and sometimes harder to attain. lt has been said that the present is like a knife's edge which divides the past from the future. There is always much ahead of us but as the present approaches and is with us for a moment it becomes the past. All that is cont ained in this book will soon be among some of your precious memories and will be placed in that ever-growing library of yours labeled the past! Cherish these m e rn o ri e s that you find contained herein but don't try to live with them. Your hope lies in the future. It has been said that the future belongs to those who prepare for it. Those things that are recorded in this book are a part of the preparation that you have made for the future. It appears that the preparation of the class of 1962 has been good, hence, a goodly portion of the future belongs to you. Cherish those memories that you find recorded here, but remember, continue to prepare for the future. If you do, it belongs to you. Most sincerely yours, William K. Poem As we have struggled upward together Through the years, We now find that we have reached the peak With happiness and tears. We know this event is not the end, But the start of things to be done, A graduating point in lifeg A looking to the sun. Years from now we shall recall The faces and names of classmates dear, And wonder just what life has brought To them each passing year. As we leave we all think back Of experiences good and bad, And with a little lump in our throat We think of the fun we have had. If we have trust and faith and hope As we continue along life's way We will find we have the strength To face each oncoming day. It all seems vague now, but if we stop and think it all comes alive. ln the fall of 1958, the class of 1962 made its appearance in high school. After the first day and all of its excite- ment, we became accustomed to the surroundings that were to be ours for the next four years of high school. We attended the State Fair, and for the highlight of that year we went to Guilford Battleground. The beginning of our sophomore year showed excitement and promise more than did our freshman year. Under the leadership of our sponsors, Mr. Wall, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Causey, we elected officers and ended our second year of high school with another picnic at Guilford Battleground. Our junior year was something to which everyone had looked forward. Now we were really upperclassmen. Our sponsors, Miss Cox, Miss Walton, and Mr. Cross, helped us with our many activities, which included magazine and candy campaigns, the Junior Play, and helping the seniors with graduation. The true highlight of that year was the Junior-Senior Banquet held at Starmount Country Club, an event that will be with us for many years to come. Our concluding year, and the one which will stand out as being the most important, brought with it the honor of being a senior, and many activities. Mrs. Gilley and Mrs. Langley have been important assets to the Senior Class. Never shall we forget all the fun we've had together, and how wonderful it is to be honored at a junior-Senior Banquet. As graduation approached and everyone realized that time had run out, the days at Randleman I-ligh School were over. It was time to decide exactly what we were going to do with our lives. Tomorrow would bring a new road, new adventure, and a path to success. The fun and the learning at Randleman High School were over, but the future was just beginning. SUSAN CAROL I-IINSHAW Class Historian 3 9 iiwwuwmvnnlguumvm-nur. g'n...4.,f,u'.e-eff . --A.-Y.-.-..--ff ..Vf-. .. . V- - fr.. , Class Prophecy When I returned to my hometown from a European tour I was astonished at the many changes that had taken place since my graduation from Randleman High in 1962. I arrived at the Randleman Airport where I was greeted by EDWIN BEESON, a former schoolmate, who is now a pilot of one of the newest jets. After talking to Edwin, I suddenly realized how little I knew about the activities of my old classmates. Because of this I called SUSAN HINSHAW, who is now an airline stewardess for Trans American Airlines, to come to the airport to have lunch with me and to brief me on what had happened to all our former schoolmates. Susan told me that JUDY DAVIS is now the dental hygienist for Dr. LARRY BIRD who has the largest dentist office in town. RUTH RICHARDSON is holding down a very important job as housewife, while her husband, FRED POWELL, is President of the Scottish Bank. JACKIE ALLRED's skating skill has certainly helped her for she is now the star of Holiday on Ice which is owned by JIMMY COBLE. After lunch Susan and I went over to the Randleman Memorial Hospital where we ran in to SHIRLEY FAROW, who is head nurse. While we were talking CHUCK DOYLE came in to get a check up. Chuck said that CRAIG ALLRED is now a disc-jockey for W.C,O.G. DIANNE PATTON is tourning the country as a vocalist with a top name band. BILL HARRIS has taken over the Gun Smoke program which is doing quite well this season. I was not at all surprised to learnthat LARRY DAVIS is now a Professor of History at the University of North Carolina. BOBBY ALLRED, after working in his father's grocery store for years, has profited by his experience because he now owns a chain of grocery stores. BRANTLEY DAVIS, who was best looking of our class, is now a very famous movie star, currently appearing in Springtime Forever. After leaving the hospital, Susan and I drove over to the courthouse, where we began talking to CLINTON HILL,who is now judge. He told us that FORREST HALL is one of the top lawyers in the state and that he is representing ARTHUR STALEY, Vice President of General Electric, in a very important case. JOHNNY MCCASKILL, now a top racer, has taken over where Lee Petty left off. Along with this information I discovered that JOHNNY WALL and BUSTER VAN WERRY are doing well as partners of a chain of department stores. As we were talking about our former classmates, we were joined by CAROLYN COLE, who is now working as a secretary for the town's most important lawyer. From the courthouse we went to the Randleman High School. There we talked to TONY FIELDS, the principal. He took us on a tour of the newly completed school and I found that some of our former classmates are teaching the re. DORIS FRAZIER is teaching science, BOBBY HOLLAND is the English teacher, and C. O. HAYES has taken over the job of coach and has turned out a fine football team. We began talking and 1 found that PAT HOLLINC-SWORTH owns a beauty shop next door to Curt's Barber Shop. REBECCA HOUGH has done well for herself. She is one of the finest pianists in the country and appeared at Carnegie Hall only a short time ago. JERRY DAVIS enjoyed driving a bus so much that he is now driving for Trailways. 40 Class Prophecy JOYCE SMALL and LOIS MARSH keep busy touring the country with a woman's professional basketball team. BUDDY BROOKSHIRE is a little confused at times but it is easy to see why. He is a math professor at Wake Forest College. MAX HINSHAW's experience in F.B.L.A. has come in handy. He is the President of Meyers' Department Store. I also learned that Randleman has a new library and that LUCINDA DAVIS is head librarian and JOYCE HARRIS is her assistant. We continued from the school to the drugstore where we found COLVIN CRAVEN, who is the owner. He told us that BEN COLEMAN is working for him as a pharmacist. BARBARA HICKS came in while we were there. She owns a florist shop and was on her way to deliver some flowers. We learned from Barbara that JADINE FRAZIER and I-LAZEL SMALL are both teaching in a modeling school in Greensboro. DONALD RICH is doing a fine job as coach of the basketball team at U.N.C. KEITH MCADEN has gone into the dairy business and is doing well. RITCHIE NANCE is a famous author and JIMMY HUDSON, who is head of a large publishing company, publishes most of his books. MIINA TALVIK's job as editor of the RENDEZVOUS proved to be very helpful for she is Editor of the Randleman Daily News. JOYCE WHITE and BRENDA YOW are secretaries for a large furniture company in High Point. DOTTIE MESSICK is busy these days placing long distance calls for a large telephone company. BOBBY DULA is a chef for the Plantation in Greensboro while another of our classmates, GEORGE WILLIAMS, owns Circle Inn. It looks as if DONALD HUNT may be in the Olympics next year demonstrating his skill as a tennis player. SANDRA WARD attended Lees-McRae and liked it so well that she decided to be a teacher there. WANDA BEANE is working very hard as a housewife and as a secretary for a large insurance firm. MARTHA RUSSELL has recently opened a bookstore downtown next to PATSY TUCKER's dress shop. WILLIS ROBBINS liked writing articles so well that he is a top reporter for the Randleman Daily News. REBECCA FARLOW, too, has gone into journalism and is presently writing a column for Look magazine. LINDA TIPPETT is an interior decorator. JAMES JACKSON is doing very well at his job as an investigator for the F.B.I. CARL ROGERS is the owner of a rodeo which is touring the country. RONNIE MCCUMBER has done well for himself as the producer of a television series. I enjoyed learning about my classmates. It brought back many fond memories of our years at Randleman High. When I left the drugstore to go home I felt a deep sense of pride to have been a member of the graduating class of 1962.
