CROMARTIE Prilmjwzl is Message It has been said that the only way to predict the Future is to study the past. If this be so it is possible that your record, which you have compiled in this publication, may Foretell for each of you things to come. If your accomplishments in high school have been based on hard work, co-operation, sincerity, and a desire to succeed, you need only to continue on the same basis in order to have a successful future. For the most part your success in life will be whatever you desire it to be. We have endeavored, here in Randleman High School, to help you attain as many attributes as you will need to have a successful and Full life. We shall observe you with much interest, both as a group and as individuals, as you make and take your place in our American Society. If you- will exploit the possibilities that each of you have to the fullest extent, you will have Ful- filled our wishes of success For you. . 41,-.. u 13 524477 i-1' X- .fe - Q H - p - 'iff-f- Fi 'is ...-Q, I . FINALLY Now is the hour. The Freshman spring, the sophomore summer, The junior autum, and senior winter Are 'past, Finished, through, And, Finally, It is come. Now is the hour. We petition destiny, interrogate fate, and wonder at our end. Always wondering, wondering, wondering- For, finally, It is come. Now is the hour. A new light stands before us so near, yet, so Far away. Now we must seek this light, For, Finally, It is come. Now is the hour. Those who have nurtured us stand suspense- Filled to iudge their creation. This creation must be appraised as finished or just begun, Since, Finally, It is come. Adelaide Cromartie, C lass Poet Class F lowers: Red and White Roses Elass flisiary Remembering our high school days-the good-times, the struggles, and the unforgettable moments of achievement-the often quoted, Time Flies , is quite fitting. As Class Historian, I'm going to turn back time and relive with you some of the hi-lights of our high school days. First let's go to the fall of '53 and the time we first entered Randleman High. I can see us filing into the new building and by our ignorance of sched- ules it is easily detected that we are Freshmen. Our class is divided into three homerooms, Mrs. Alexander's, Mr. Causey's, and Mr. Neal's. By the end of the semester we are enjoying immensely the activities offered us. lt's the spring of '54 and I see our class gathered at High Point City Lake for a party. Then school ends, and we denounce our title, Green Freshmen . Time passes, fall comes, and we enter school as, Silly Sophomores . Un- der the guidance of Miss Cox and Miss Liles, our year is a prosperous one. There are happenings of '54-'55 which we shall never forget-the Christmas party, our participation in activities, and the end-of-school picnic. Continuing to look into the past, I find our Junior year filled with signifi- cance. Mrs. Swiggett and Mr. Wall are our helpful sponsors. The magazine campaign proves to be a worthwhile proiect, for we win a special plaque. Glancing back on outstanding events of the year, I see a curtain rise, re- vealing my classmates, portraying characters in, Call Me Darling , our Junior play. Then finally comes the night of the Junior-Senior Banquet. Decorations of blue and white adorn the Thomasville Woman's Club and our theme, Mo- ments To Remember , is carried out perfectly. Graduation time nears and we take part in the Senior's Class Night. We held an arch for the Seniors to pass through and then sadly sang them a farewell song. At graduation, I can see how proud we are of our stately marshals as they lead the Seniors down the aisle. We closed our Junior year and its many, Moments To Remember , with a party at High Point City Lake. Then comes the long awaited year-we are Seniors! We learn that being a Senior is a big responsibility and that it is necessary for us to set a good ex- ample for the student body. Gazing back, I see us seated with our Senior sponsors, Miss Holladay and Mrs. Swiggett, who worked faithfully with us during the year. We chose our colors, a motto, mascots, the annual staff, superlatives, and we measured for caps and gowns. Then, I see that after much rehearsing we presented our play, Finders Creepers , which was a smash hit. The memorable banquet given us by the Juniors, and the fun and thrill of our Washington trip will always stay in our hearts. Suddenly, it was time for the graduation exercises-class night, the Bac- calaureate Sermon, and now, graduation night itself. As I look into the faces of my classmates, I know their thoughts are the same as mine. Each of us real- izes that we have not learned all that has been offered us in books, but we feel that we have learned the most beautiful and beneficial lesson of all, how to get along with people. I can also see that they are sad as I am-sad because we are leaving the Alma Mater of which we have so long been a part. But Seniors, remember the true words of our motto, Not at the Heights, But Climb- ing . Our high school days have been our first and perhaps our most important step, but not the end of our iourney. Instead of grieving at what we must leave behind, we must continue upward if we are to reach the goals and achieve the success intended for us by our Creator. I mean Perry and me getting together again. It all started when the paper I was working for assigned me to interview the young comedian who was taking Jackie GIeason's place. When I arrived I was surprised that the young comedian was Perry Blake. Well, we got together and talked about what has happened to all our classmates in the class of '57 fifteen years later. Here is some of the news we exchanged: Ode Hanner has remodeled his restaurant to include a poolroom, and he recently hired Julia Allred as head waitress. John Coleman replaced Jim Tatum as head football coach at Carolina last year, and the Tar Heels rolled to an undefeated season. Gretna Sink is now married to Bobby Bonkemeyer. The two own a chain of I7 dry cleaning plants. There's a new singing rage around the country these days. It's Bill The Thrill Gantt, who is in his third week in New Orleans. Myrna Trogdon and Barbara Parrish are doing a lot of people a lot of good. Myrna is head nurse at Baptist Hospital, and Barbara at Duke Hospital. The Washington Redskins at last won the championship last year, and one of the big reasons was star tackle Paul Solomon. Patsy Cox is also doing well in the athletic world. She is captain of the famous Hanes Hosiery team. Lewis Loflin and Tracy Staley formed a partnership, moved to Texas to farm, and struck oil. Last week they bought an MG to climb up on their Jaguar to wash their Cadillac. The name Petty is still prominent in racing. This time it's Maurice behind the wheel. Tommy Rayle and Wade Robbins are his pit crew. John Lassiter and Bobby Plummer are co-owners of an outfit known as The Horrible Hell-Drivers. They recently played at the state fair in Raleigh. The other day I asked Bruce Freeman how business was. Pretty dead, he replied. But he's doing okay. You see, Bruce is an undertaker. The Children's Hospital in Washington, D. C., lists two Randleman alumni in it's personnel. They are: William Lamb, Doctor, and Violet Smith, Nurse. Well, Lawrence English really lived up to his Superlative: Most Likely to Succeed. He is president of General Motors. Rose Johnson is doing exceedingly well. She recently bought out the en- tire chain of Rose's stores. Needless to say, the name remained the same. Nancy Bowman got married and moved to California, where she is Walt Disney's top cartoonist. Were you watching TV last night? If you were, you heard Ed Sullivan say that Liberace was sick and unable to appear. In his place was a young man who, without Candelabra or wavy hair, still played very well. His name: None other than Tommy Heath. There is a new exclusive dress shop in New York owned by Margie Lanier and Shirley Ward. The clothes are designed by Flora Memory, of Paris. Warren Brown has returned to Randleman Hi as principal. But the boy is ignoring a fine old R.H.S. tradition. He still has all his hair. Included in his teaching staff are Hazel Ruth Cox-Foreign Language, and Helen Gregson- Math. Last summer in the All-Star game, shortstop Jim Brady of the New York Yankees set a new record. Lawrence Dennis is head science teacher at State College. W. S. Beeson owns 4 farms in Randolph County. Adelaide Cromartie is in her 3rd season on Broadway after her success in Finders Creepers . Barbara Pugh has the important job of raising a whole houseful of little Pu hs. 9 Tommy Hollingsworth, a big beef farmer, is advising Tracy 81 Lewis on washing Cadillacs. He should know how. He owns 8. Jerry Yow is driving a Greyhound bus from Los Angeles to Baltimore. Carl Smith is still raising chickens on his million acre farm in Florida. Nancy Hawkins has gained top honors in all the beauty contests, her Ia- test being Miss America. Eari Rumbley has taken his store business from Worthville and opened up a nationwide chain group. The best man to get a good used car from these days is Troy Allred. He owns three lots in Greensboro. Judy Brady runs a charm school in Chicago. Richard White is chief designer for the Mercury division of the Ford Co. Maior Reid Crotts recently completed his IOOth hour in the air flying mis- sion for the Air Force. Joy Brown and DeeAnn Fogleman are both receptionists at big fashion shows the world over. . Dotsie Joyce and Ellen Julian are secretaries for the Ford Company in De- troit. Kenneth McCain causes mixed feelings of sadness and happiness in the world. He is recruiting sergeant for the Army. Lib Morgan is playing a violin in the All-Girl Orchestra. North Carolina recently elected it's first female U. S. Senator. None other than Sandra Roby. Bobby Short is a famous lawyer in Philadelphia. Last year the Amoco Corporation sold out to our own Kenny Thomas, who owns stations from coast to coast. The latest best-seller in books is entitled My Home Town. It is about Ran- dleman and was written by Louise Tingen. Ernestine Williams is Dean of the Williams Business School in High Point. The headlines in the paper this morning said that Betty Lowe had formed a partnership with Howard Johnson, the famous restaurant owner. Betty McQueen is now managing a small dress shop and three kids in the hills of North Carolina. Jimmy Lamb and Dennis Sink are now secret service men and take daily strolls with the President. Jim Varner, still behind the wheel, is now driving for Allied Van Lines. Well, I had a deadline to meet so I wished Perry luck on the television program and headed back to the office. During our eight years of elementary school we experienced many new and exciting events. Then came 1954. Feeling a little superior because we had reached high school, we started our fresh- HIGH yedf. In our sophomore year, as in our freshman year, we had lots of fun enjoying our various clubs, along with study. Now, 60 of us are experiencing our first year as upperclassmen.
