We learned to apply our knowledge and strive for higher goals. In this pursuit we were guided by words of wise and noble people. This year's RED OAK features Words of Wisdomi' as its theme. Throughout the book you will read quotes of wisdom. It is hoped that while reading the 1964 RED OAK, you will remember and be inspired by this advice, and that you will strive to carry on your education and enrich your life. INTRODUCTION 1-3 ADMINISTRATION 4-11 SENIORS 12-53 UNDERCLASSMEN 54-75 ACTIVITIES 76-101 SPORTS 102-127 ADVERTISEMENTS 123-144 2 DEDICATIO MR. RAYMOND WELCH As we progress from freshmen to seniors, our lives have been influenced by many people. Prominent in our minds stands one whom we, the class of 1964, wish to single out for his industry and talent - Mr. Raymond Welch. Throughout our four years Mr. Welch has worked dili- gently to supplement and improve our education with the addition of music to our lives. As he moves from the crisp, cheery sound of the band on the football field to the mel- low tones of the concert band, Mr. Welch proves his in- finite versatility. He has given freely of his time and pa- tience to enable us to reap the re- wards of rich and fulfilling years at RVRHS. To you Mr. Welch, we give our heartfelt gratitude and de- dicate to you the 1964 RED OAK. 3 -- ADMIN I TRATIO BOARD OF EDUCATION LEFT TO RIGHT: Charles S, Miller, Ellidt A. Hussey, Stanley G. Cliver, Walter L. Neeld, Norman R. Zelley, presidcntg Robert C. Shinn, secretaryg Frederick YV. Evans, superinten- dentg Colin F. Tait, vice-presidentg Joseph A. Green, Spencer M. Schecter. The class of 1964 owes a debt of gratitude to the administra- tors of our high school. We thank them for trying to make our school just a little bit better, MR. EVANS Superintendent Mr. Evans has shown a deep interest in the Class of 364. By his example and guidance he has inspired us to become responsible and conscientious citizens of the future. 4 XX' his MR. WENRICH Principal Each Hfella and galw knows that Mr. WVenrich understands teenagers. Always willing to help whenever he could, our principal was vital to the Class of 764, and we are sincerely thankful to him. MR. KRIVACS Vice-principal Our class has seen a vivacious ad- ministrator in our vice-principal, Mr. Krivacs. His handling of disciplinary problems has been unique and effec- tive, and we respect him very high- ly for his efforts. Any organization is as good as the people who lead it. Rancocas Valley Regional High School is fortunate to have the leadership of a Hne Board of Education, Mr. Evans, Mis. Wlenrich, and Mr. Krivacs. F CULTY 'LPatience and Faithf' - surely these qualities describe the teachers who make up our faculty. Needless to say, we students are fortunate that they do possess these attributes. On many occasions we have witnessed the patience of our teachers. There were the innumerable times we chattered in study hall, there was that assignment we failed to read, and there were many other neglectful things. We would be where if our teachers had not been patient? Faith also characterizes our facultyi Their faith in us has inspired us to work to the best of our abilities. Their encouragement has let to ultimate success. This is our teaching staff as seen through the eyes of their severest critics - the students. We thank them sincerely for their patience and faith during the years. GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT WILLIAM F. TREFZ, B.S., M.Ed. Trenton State College, Rutgers University WILLIAM GORDON, A.B., M.Ed. In the next week, our class ofhcers were chosen: Joyce Hutton, President: Cerhardt LaPresta, Vice President: Larry Fisher. Treasurer: and Colette Wortli, Secretary. In the manner of the most new classes. a somewhat chaste year followed. All of our class undertakings were marked with a spirit of exuberance and enjoy- ment. Our Sophomore year found an almost entirely new set of officers to guide the class. Jack Fadeley, Stan O'Donnell. Joyce Hutton. and Colette VVorth. were the class architects who planned our successful passage into the Junior year. The high spot of our second year was An Evening in Paris, our Sophomore Dance. The spirit of the Class of '64 really burst forth in our Junior year under the leadership of class officers Joyce Hutton, Don Bryan. Shirley lNIantell. and Beth Conn. The Christmas Dance was a resounding success. as was our Junior Play, g4Pure as the Driven Snow, starring Connie Hand and George Scholl. In the realm of sports, the Class of 764 contributed many starters to the football team and was dis- tinctive in that it made up four-hfths of the starting Red Devil Basketball Squad. All-Country stars Bill YVorrell and John Krimmel were at the front of the Devils, highly successful season. The wrestling team had two District Champions from our class in the persons of Jon Rasmuson and Wayne Batten, truly a distinction earned by no other class in the history of our school. But the climax of any class career comes in the Senior year, and ours was the same. An especially energetic slate of class officers was elected, with Don Saunders, Don Bryan, Shirley Mantell, and lieth Conn serving their classmates. Stan O'Don- nell led our football team to a fine season which saw John Krimmel elected to All- County. All-South Jersey. and All-State football teams. Larry Fisher and Wayne Batten co-captained our championship Cross-Country team. In the realm of aca- demic endeavors, Sue Lorenz was a semitinalist in the National lXIerit Scholarship program. with eight other members of our class receiving letters of commendation. The spirit of the Class of '64 was evident in all endeavors. A smashing success was the Class Play, f'The Curious Savage, one of the finest student productions ever at R.V.R.H.S. In the area of athletic spirit, Colette Wortli eaptained the vivaeious Red Squad responsible for student pep. And Red Devil fans had plenty to cheer about, It would be impossible to name a single star of the wrestling team. co-captains YVayne Batten and Jon Rasmuson came closest to fitting the definition. Bill W'orrell, John Krimmel, Ken Young, and Bob Pancoast were the Senior leaders of a fabulous Holly basket- ball squad. which brought honor to the school. The Class of ,64 closed out the year with a beautiful Senior Prom. after our in- formative and enjoyable Wlashington trip. Intellectually. athletically, and socially, it was a class to be admired and to be proud of. 45 In thi , 5 , w len thousand international t ' s modern afre l s of miles can be bridged in a matter of hours, at relations become more important than ever before. For this reason, during the past year I have been a member of your school under the American Field Service Program. What better way is there of gaining an understanding of people. their Customs and their Country, than to live with them? I have gained a better understanding of life in America, not from reading about it, but by being a part of it: and, thanks to many experiences, I will be able to provide rny friends with a better understanding of the American way of life. My year here has been a re- warding and happy one for me: and I truly appreciate and thank my teachers, the Student Clouneil, and all my friends for the help and understanding they have ex- tended to me. Most of all. I would like to thank my second family. They have shared much with me, and I have been happy for it. They shared their lives with me and I, in turn, shared with them f different people, different ideas, but basically the same. II happiness is partly measured by sharingg then I have shared much with you and you have shared with me, and what more could one ask for than this kind of hap- piness? Jose R. OU GIL This year, under the supervision of oflicers, Steven Head, George Beals, Marily'n Pheif-lier, Shirley Mantell, and George Scholl, and faculty advisers Mr. Hoke, and hir. Osworth, the homeroom representatives of Student Council maintained a fine record of service to the student body. Many of the duties performed by the Student Council are so much a part of school life that they are overlooked by mostg however, their absence would be very obvious. The simple task of holding the doors between classes is one of these func- tions. Another is providing a receptionist to greet visitors and to sell shakers, pencils, bookcovers, and other items which promote school spirit. Suggestions from students concerning improvements in school facilities and policy are discussed at the meetingsg and whenever advisable, action is taken. Bach year Student Council presents a full-length feature film to raise money. This year the film The Sea Hawk starring Errol Flynn, was enjoyed by the student body. Another function of Student Council is sponsoring social events. The Welcome Dance and the Sadie Hawkins Dance, as well as the noon-time dancing and dances after basketball games, were presented during the school year. Student Council also sponsores a Foreign Exchange Student when financially capable. This year our foreign student was Jose Mora Badilla from Costa Rica. Student Council has again proven to be an effective link between the student body and the Administration, and an equally effective promoter of school spirit and cooperation. ALTERNATES FIRST ROW: M.
