restlers go to State Qualifying four men for State, Coach lay Thompson's wrestling team performed consist- ently all season. Bennie Montoya, Taylor Hawes, Mark Newburn and Mike Little each won berths in State by winning in the Zone. Bennie Montoya scored a 4th in Zone while Taylor Hawes placed third. Mark Newburn, with a second in Zone, went on to take fourth in the State meet. Another, Zone placer, Mike Lit- tle also a defending State champion took third in Zone and third in State. Continuing throughout the season with a respectable win-loss record, the team scored ten wins and eight losses, and one tie in total dual meets. In conference meets, the team had four wins, five losses and one tie. Using the home mat to advantage the Ram went six wins, three losses and one tie. In total dual, meet points, Rams scored 739 with their opponents scoring 552. An undefeated wrestler in confer- ence dual meets was Mark Newburn. Along with regular season meets the team participated in the Chaparral Invitational. Three wrestlers, Mike Little, Lonney Corum and Mark Newburn were winners in the 191 lb., the 175 lb., and the 133 lb. classes. Varsity Wrestling 169
