Concert Band Noise! Neyer was there such noise! The tortured wail of a saxophone. the mournful hellow of a tuba. the strangled squeak of a flute. the clatter of scores of musicians, these are the sounds of the hand warming up. Then. Mr. Pursel lifts his baton and the bedlam is stilled. Attention focuses upon the director. the baton drops. then. Musicl The band may sound bad tuning up but as they play together there is no comparison. The sound is the result of hours of practice and conscientious effort. The only reward is a record of fine per- forrnances. During the year the Ram Band sent four stu- dents to a Reno clinic, received their sweaters, sponsored a band dance as well as a twirlers clinic. Small groups made appearances on TV shows.
