worked hard while hoping for a suc- cessful season. Team Captain Dave Neeley took care of the ball handling chores and led the attack, while Rich Anderson and Chris O'Nei11 led the team in scoring. The Vaquero Varsity water polo team was one of the finest in years finishing in second place in the Garden Grove League with a 5-1 record. The only loss was to Garden Grove 13-12 in sudden death. This was also the first time since 1967 that Rancho made the C.I.F. playoffs. Rancho played many 4A schools during the season and still ended up with an 11-7 record . They only lost to one 3A division school the entire year. The team was led by juniors Byron Sims and Mark Maurer, who provided most of the offense . The team also had two sophomore starters in Brian Sims and goalie John Levesque . The nucleus of the team was comprised of seniors Tom Gay, Kip O'Neill, Stitch Siems, Cam Siems, Henry Ishii, and Mike Dufault. Also contributing tremendously were juniors David Crain and Lance Fryer.
