Rancho's Varsity Football Team anticipated a successful season this year in spite of the strong competition in the Garden Grove League. However many elements offset the high hopes of the Vaqueros. Fifteen of the Vaquero's starters were sidelined for part of the season due to injuries. Forty-one times during the season, the Vaqs turned the ball over to their opponents. The result was the most unsuccessful season that Rancho has had since 1963 when they were 1 and 8. Rancho's one bright spot of the season was their 19-16 win over arch-rival , Garden Grove. The Argos eventually won the league title and advanced farther in the C. l. F. playoffs than any other team in the history of the Garden Grove League. Members of the Vaquero 1975 Varsity team were honored by the league for their outstanding performances. Russ Buenafe, the team captain, was selected as defensive back on the first team all league. Brian Case, Rancho's most valuable player, was selected on the second team all league. Honorable mention was awarded to Joe Parsons as defensive end and Chris Radke as offensive receiver. The Rancho coaching staff honored Jeff Pettit as the recipient of the 100070 award. The most improved player selected by team members and coaches was Kevin Jeffries. The Vaqueros will return twenty lettermen for next year's Hawaii- bound team. The outlook at the start of the season for Rancho's Sophomore football team was very promising. But, in the first game eight starters were injured, sig- nificantly hampering our team's abil- ity. The season's record was 2-6. Although the sophomores didn't do too well they beat undefeated Santiago 24-0. Don Buenafe did an excellent job of quarterbacking, with help from Pete Delduca as shotback and defen- sive back and offensive and defensive tackle Luis Ambrose. Most Valuable - Pete Delduca, Most Improved - Brian Aratan, Most Inspirational - Don Koerner, Team Captain - Luis Ambrose, 100070 - Charles Madic. Sophomore Football ' 5 4 .i .
