Although the Loss. . . of 1975 League Championships was a great disappointment for the Varsity Cross-Country team, it must be remembered that the team has been League Champs the last five years. The team finished a successful dual meet season, the proud owners of a 5-1 record after a narrow 27-29 loss to La Quinta . The team is dominated by a group of five seniors who won the Mission Viejo Invitational. Throughout the year the team has been led by the talented twins, Tim and Tom Becker, who contributed 9:45 and 9:46 two-mile clockings to that Invitational win. Tom Randle has been a consistent 3rd man with Steve Neely and Bill Goeke filling out the top five. Two sophomores and two freshmen also found their way on the Varsity team with some consistency. Harold Besaw and Scott Shipley with Kenny Vargas and Steve Martinez have all made a major contribution to the team's outstanding season. 13 All League meets were held at Mile Square Park. 23 Scott Shipley way ahead of his opponents. 39 Tom Randle as he crosses the finish line. 45 Tom Randle as he circles the lake's edge . 55 Varsity Team: Ctop rowj Tom Becker: Tom Randle: Steve Neelyg Tim Becker. Following the Tradition of the past five years the I . V . cross-country team finished a perfect season of 9 wins and no losses to win the dual meet championships of the Garden Grove League. The team was led throughout by senior Steve Besaw who won all of his races at Mile Square Park. Steve used the backing of several other outstanding distance runners to earn the undefeated season. Gary Wells, Perry Vanderhout, John Leeder and Lonnie Pyle were instrumental through the season as they each contributed their running talents to a team that was not seriously challenged all year. 15 Steve Besaw has no opposition in sight. 23 Gary Wells runs in the c1ear.i 35 Lonnie Pyle sprints near the end . 41 J.V.
