Many of the students attended actual board meetings where they could voice their opinions on subjects being discussed. Mike Devereaux and Judy Gaines were School Board Trus- tees, Keith Schroeder and Tom Howard were City Councilmen, Jack Ptak was Sanitary Board Member, Ron Guyer was Coun- ty Supervisor, and Arnie Pre- heim was Orange County Plan- ning Commissioner. This year for the first time some of the merchants in Garden Grove also participated in Youth Day. Ralph Nichols was Manager of J. C. Penney 84 Co. Lily Hooper, John Gewin, and Allan Algoso were Managers of Safeway. La Voz and El Conquistador staff members helped publish the Daily News.
