.N 'ir USS RAMSE Y FF - THE HISTORY OF USS RAMSEY QFFG-25 USS RAMSEY CFFG-21 is a Brooke class guided missle frigate especially designed for locating and destroying enemy submarines and aircraft, ln addition to performing anti-submarine and anti-air warfare, RAMSEY is capable of such varied missions as anti- surface ship warfare, shore bombardment, search and rescue, patrol, evacuation, blockade, visit and search or surveillance. The ship is equipped with a modern long range sound detection system QSONARD, a long range air and surface search radar, modern communications equipment, a light airborne multipurpose QLAMPSD helicopter and a sophisticated electronic warfare system, Arrriament includes one inc cai er gun o u e - - medium range TARTAR missile system for use against aircraft and cruise missiles. The ship also has six torpedo tubes and an anti- submarine rocket launching QASROCD system. RAMSEY is manned by 20 officers and 250 enlisted men. She has modern living compartments, and messing facilities, a post office. ships store. laundry, barber shop and dispensary. Ship's propulsion is provided by two pressure fired boilers providing 1200 si steam to turbines which drive a single propeller C15 feet in diameteri through a locked train reduction gear. RAMSEY is capable 5 h 38 l b f r s as an anti aircraft and anti surface weapon or for shore bombardment and a P of speeds over 27 knots. RAMSEY produces over 20,000 gallons of fresh water daily for personnel use and for feeding the ship boilers. RAMSEY has an overall length of 415 ft 1 inch, extreme beam of 44 feet, 2 5X8 inches and a full load displacement of 3553.52 tons. She was commissioned at- 'Puget Sound Naval Shipyard on 3 June, 1967 and became the Flagship of Destroyer Squadron 29.
