Big-1 Q., k- It H .- P Executive omcen qocmber, 1965 - August, may ..- LCDR Robert O. Strange, Jr., USN, son of the late Captain and Mrs. Robert O. Strange USN of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, enlisted in the Nam' in August, 1952. He entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in July, 1953 and graduated with the class of 1957. His first assignment was as Anti-Subniarine Officer aboard USS JENKINS QDDE-4475 which was engaged with ASW evaluations and operations in the Pacific at the time. After a tour as Gunnery Officer of USS SPROSTON QDDE-5771, LCDR Strange was ordered to the U. S. Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California where he grad- uated in 1962 with a degree in Weapons System Engineering. LCDR Strange next reported to the Surface Missile System section of the Bureau of Naval Weapons where he served as Officer-in-Charge of the Missile Ship's Qualification and Assistance Team. Returning to sea in 1963, he served as Weapons Officer aboard USS SAMPSON QDDG-107 which was in- volved in testing and evaluating the TARTAR missile system during much of his tour. In October, 1965 he reported to RAMSEY as Prospective Executive Officer, and be- came the ship's first Exec after commissioning in June, 1967. LCDR Strange helped ' ' d fitting-out through readiness qualifications and guide RAMSEY out of construction an ,D O ' d h lfwa ' through the deployment until preparation for Westpac deployment.
