W sw WE Third Division is made up of three different rates, each unique in its own respect. The largest of the three rates is the sonar technicians. Each and every member of the sonar gang helps to operate and maintain the most advanced sonar system in the fleet. During our WestPac cruise, Third Division was accredited with the most outstanding performance for Anti-Submarine Warfare among the destroyers in the squadron. This rewards the many long hours that the sonarmen have worked to keep this system oper- ational. Our sonar system, the ANXSQS-26AX, has the highest operational time in the fleet. This is why the men of the sonar gang have been able to maintain such a high standard of Anti-Submarine Warfare readiness. The Gunnersmates' and the Torpedomen supply the weapons system for Anti-Submarine Warfare. These men maintain and operate their respective weapon sys tems daily. The Asroc and the conventional torpedo are the main arsenel used against enemy submarines. Both of these rates Work closely with the sonarman.
