Looking back to 1956 we see ourselves taking that very first important step of the ladder, the first grade. I believe each of us can remember how scared we were of “Old R. H. S.” But with the aid of our devoted teachers and parents we survived through the primary grades and we became very proud “‘seventh-graders.” That year was an important one-because of the annual trip to Chapel Hill. But before we knew it the year and the much waited for trip was over and we were “eighth-graders.” Again the main thought for the year was another trip, but this time to our state capitol. Our first eight steps were soon behind us, and we stepped up into the weird world of high school. We might have been a little scared, but we were anxious and all ready to go into our four last years of hard work, a lot of studying, and more fun and memories than anyone could ever write down. We soon became used to being called “greenhorns” and being pushed back in the lunch line. Then somehow, all too quickly, we found ourselves as “silly” sophomores. Before we knew it, we climbed these two important steps and ventured into the land of “jolly” juniors. This was one of our hardest and busiest years. Our main concern for the year was our Junior- Senior Prom. To finance the prom we sold magazines. The prom was a beautiful array of pink and silver highlighted with the theme, “Stairway to Enchantment.” With the prom behind us, we realized graduation was close at hand and more hard work was ahead, the daisy chain. But the daisy chain turned out fine and our official duties as juniors were over. We would like to thank our Junior Sponsors, Mrs. Linda Gales and Mrs. Ollie Rich, for their patience and all their wonderful help. Ah! Seniors at last which means we are first in the lunch line. We have waited a very long eleven years to take our seats as Seniors. But now as Seniors wer realize we have to leave our beloved halls of R. H.S. This means more goals to accomplish and added responsibilities. This year has proved a very good one under the direction and aid of our new principal, Mr. Earl R. Hedrick, Jr. Highlights of our final year include homecoming, class rings, senior play, class parties, dances, movie trips, the prom, our trip to Washington, and all the sports activities. There was a constant race to meet Ram and Ramsonian deadlines. While all of these important things were taking place, graduation was getting closer and closer. Our history has been much the same as Seniors passed, but we know now how it feels to live through the twelve cherished years of school. No words can express our thanks to our many teachers, our parents, and especially our Senior sponsors, Mrs. Martha York and Mr. Charles Lee Edwards. Thank you for the happiest and most rewarding years of our lives. Cathy Conrad 36 Class Motto “Slight not what’s near through aiming at what’s far.”’ Euripides Class Colors Royal Blue and White Class Song Soon we'll be leaving; We just have to go, On into our future, On into our goal. Our parting is saddened, With each “‘last good-bye,” We’ll always have memories Of Old Ramseur High. Our lives have been molded By teachers so dear; By parents so loving, To our hearts so dear. Bill Dorsett Ted York Class Flower White Rose Cl ass Poem Soon we will leave Ramseur High, For graduation draws near. We will go our separate ways, On our own at last, but with a tear. In our eyes there gleams a hope That we shall meet success. In God we will trust And we will strive to do our best. Memories of our years will linger.on, And a heart felt thanks we extend To parents, teachers, and our friends For the stairway to life, a chance to ascend. Yes, our strong band shall n’er be broken Formed here, unwavering and true, Sealed by love and friendships ties. Farewell Alma Mater, we bid adieu.
