SCHOOL ALABAMA You Play While I Hum The Ram Board This has been a great year at Ramsay. Due to the dedication ot our fine faculty, and the hard work of our student body, we have achieved a quality program in all disciplines. Ramsay continues to be a leader in academics. Results of the latest Stanford Achievement Tests rank Ramsay not only best in our system, but on an equal basis with Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills. Our English scores were the highest of any school in the metropolitan area. Our Academic bowl team was undefeated during the regular season, and placed second in the city tournament, and our math teams have placed in the top five in various state tournaments. Two Ramsay seniors are National Merit Finalists, and three are National Achievement Finalists. Our band received a trophy for Excellent at the All City Marching Band Competition, and four students made all state band. In drama four students qualified for the state competition in the District Level Trumbauer Competition, and we had one state winner. The Ramsay Singers, with inspired leadership, are once again one of the best groups in the city. The Fine Arts continue to excel at Ramsay. Our Vocational Department continues its excellence as the school had eight winners at the DECA District Competition. This year also restored our school newspaper, now called the Rambler. In athletics, the year saw a third consecutive volleyball state championship, and a basketball team ranked number one most of the year. The rifle team won a second consecutive division championship, and one of our dancers placed second in the district finals of Jaz2 and Tap. We had an individual win the State Class 1A-5A cross country meet, and the team sport of baseball once again is being played at Ramsay. Ramsay is a challenging and interesting place to acquire an education. To you seniors, we started together four years ago. and now you must leave. I appreciate your assistance and contributions so much. To you underclassmen, let’s continue the accomplishments, and tackle the challenges. Ralph B. I appreciate the opportunity to wish the best of everything to Mrs. Connie Jones in her retirement. Mrs. Jones has been a big help to me, particularly in my initial year at Ramsay. Perhaps what she does best is her relationship with our students. She has a beautiful rapport with all Ramsay students. She could be tough, but always fair. Students in high school need a responsible adult who they can confide in. Students also need an individual who will be honest and straight with them. Mrs. Jones did not always tell the students what they wanted to hear, but she told them what she thought was in their best interest. I hope Mrs. Jones has a rich and rewarding retirement. Mrs. Jones, thanks for all the guidance you have provided our students here at Ramsay. I wish you the best, and may God bless you always. Sincerely, RjjL i to Ralph B. I hope you are reading this in the spring of 1988. If not, we have gained experience we can certainly use next year. To the staff, I would like to say “your contribution toward this book has been greatly appreciated.” Thank you for the art work, page design and especially for those days of after-school-work. I would also like to thank Mrs. Sellers for being so patient and understanding at the moments when I thought I would go crazy. Her best comfort was “It’s going to be great!!!” Diana Ngu.
