Since l93Z, Ramsay girls have striven to become members of The Tri-Hi-Y, At the beginning ot this school year, an anusually large number were wel- comed into the club. X Q .fi A whistle, a roll of drums, and rows of white bucks moving snappily in time to lively music, tell us that our one hundred-piece band has ar- rived. The colorful band drills prepared by the patient maestro, Mr. Houseman, included pre- cision marching, lighted formations, and varied types of music. To add to the spectator's enthu- siasm, the three peppy drum majors and six majorettes, executed displays of skillful baton twirling. Along with providing half-time enter- tainment at football games, the band assisted in local parades, using the new, slower, parade tempo, instead of the fast one for which they are so well known, After football season, Mr, House- man switched his marching unit into a concert orchestra which could play classical, jazz, or march music. By submitting applications, a com- mittee chose members to participate in the County, District, and State Band Festivals each year. This year's band will lose, through gradua- tion, 21 members, including two majors and two majorettes. As we look back over the years, we realize that our band wasamajor part ofour high school life. We hope that it will continue to be this for years to come, and that it will mean to others just as much as it meant to us. Dunbar Twp. Set up the shuts, Buys! JF Along the Cinrlered lrail Many of the students at Ramsay were disap- pointed this year, when it was announced that track will be eliminated. Track was not so out- standing a sport as was football or basketball, but it was still popular with many. All of the boys who participated in track events were extremely downcast, as was their coach, Mr. Tom Copeland. Insufficient funds and lack of equipment were given as reasons for suspension of track. Jan Sikorsky, who takes an extremely active interest in track, has formed a team including Patsy Santarel and Butch Reed. Jan excelsin the javalin throw, Patsy in the shot put, and Butch in the discus throw. These boys practice their specialties during their spare time at home. This team, however, is still in the Class B section, and qualifies for the County Meet. First or second place must be taken in this meet for the boys to qualify for the Penn State Meet, where a tro- phy is awarded to the winning team, 33 .w J. C.
