Learning the Basics 456789 THE KINDERGARTEN recognized wrote the alphabet numbers from 1-20 knew 15 basic words. They learned to get along with others, take turns with rhythm steps learned to jump rope. Beginning sounds of letters were stressed with M being highlighted by a Chinese party, (Lower Left). Greg Cassutt and Kathy Palli reigned as king and queen over the 1976-1977 Homecoming festivities Greg and Kathy Reign Over Homecoming Homecoming week began with a number of activities to arouse student interest and enthusiasm. Monday was Senior Slave Day ; all underclassmen fetched and carried for the seniors. Tuesday was Hush Day ; all the girls were supposed to not talk all day-if possible! Wednesday was Lick 'em Day ; suckers were sold for 10$ a piece. Thursday was Farmers and 50's Day , and everyone dressed accordingly. That evening the cheerleaders sponsored a variety show which culminated in the crowning of the 1976-1977 Homecoming King and Queen. On Friday, Red and Black Day , the faculty and students were treated to a weiner roast and watermelon feed fol- lowed by games outdoors in the afternoon. Dayton Williams has been an outstanding vocal music student during his three years at RHS. He was a member of the 1976 All State Chorus and has been active in solo work. He and his guitar playing have been a great help with the music concerts. The Triple Trio performed at the Christmas concert and the Ramona Band Dinner in May. At the beginning of the school year an All State Quartet was selected. They Traveled to Huron the first weekend in November and after two days of singing and rehearsing, the four performed in the All State Chorus and Orchestra concert Nov. 6. Lisa Ander- sen was a national finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Contest, winner of the Doug Thurow Award for the senior ath- lete who maintains the highest scholastic average, and the winner of the Family Leader of Tomorrow Award. Dick Struwe was named the outstanding drama student, and Kathy Palli was awarded a plaque for being the outstanding musician for 1977. Individuals Win Awards Left: Dayton Williams and Connie Struwe were chosen Boys' State and Girls' State Representatives from Ramona High School for 1977. Each will attend a week long learning seminar this summer. Girls' State in Mitchell and Boy's State in Aberdeen are workshops to teach stu- dents about the government. They held Family Day on which the girls tried to do something with their family. On Education Day the FHA girls told people about FHA and its goals. On Quilting Day the or- ganization made two quilts to use as throw covers for the furniture in the student lounge. On Clean- up Day they cleaned the stage and painted a mural on one of the walls. They sold suckers to earn money, organized the Variety Show, and made many signs to raise the spirit for the big game. During the rest of the year there were many controversies among the cheer- leaders themselves and between the cheerleaders and the administration. Eventually a stalemate was reached.
