After look- ing closely, I caught a glimpse of the future, the year of 1961 to be exact. As the phases moved on some faces came Into view. Of oourse as these faces became clear- er I realized they were none other than those fhces of the graduating olass of 1951 As the scenes rolled by a strange; but wonderful thing came Into my view. It was a farm near Ramona and who could it be but Mrs. Joseph Manthey (Caroline Beyer) picking eggs with three little Mantheye hanging on her apron strings. She seemed to be quite contented wiping each of their noses As the scenes passed, Marvin Ellertson, the only senior boy, oame before my eyes. Marvin must like to be a lone wolf for he is still a baohelor; but he has eyes on a certain girl that was two years behind him in school. Marvin lives on a farm by Ramona and everything on this farm is run by atomic controls. Then all at once I heard a beautiful soprano voice and who oould it be but Mrs. Yernon Lebahn (Rose Mary Rensoh). They have a brand new home on the outskirts of San Franclco. I thought it was about time for the picture to come to an end but their was still one senior girl left, Ardath Lingle. Ardath is now Mrs. Lewis Neseelm. She arid her husband were proudly displaying their set of twins os their farm near Lake Preston. I was so interested in the future of these wonderful classmates that I had lost track of time. But these images and thoughts oame to an end when my Mother cal- led for me. CLASS HISTORY On September 3, 19 7, seven ambitious freshmen, tot- tering but determined, began the Journey up the ladder to success. Entrusted with duties as president of the olass was Dean Strang, but he soon fell and Henry Lingle took over hie duties. Record keeper of freshmen acti- vities and Income was Ardath Lingle. Other freshmen were Doris Lebahn, Caroline Beyer,John Fallon, and Rose Mary Rensch. Candidates for king and queen at the carn- ival were Caroline Beyer and Henry Lingle. he spring found the class eager for a vacation after having reach- ed the first rung. The next fall, ten sophomores returned with the sup- port gained by the addition of Dwight Ness,Dale Phelps. Eugene Eggebraten, and Marvin Ellertson. Henry Lingle was elected leader of the group with Caroline Beyer to help him. Marvin Ellertson was made secretary-treasurer. At carnival time some sophomores and freshmen presented the play, Life of the Party , and put up Ardath Lingle and Marvin Ellertson as candidates for king and queen. In the spring, when they had reached the second rung of the ladder, the olass again looked forward to their vaoatlon. In September, 19 9 the loss of Dwight Ness, Henry Lingle, John Fallon, and Dale Phelps diminished the class to six. Rose Mary Rensch was made president of the class and was assisted by Caroline Beyer. Upon Ardath Lingle was conferred the duties of secretary-tree surer. Eugene Eggebraten and Rose Mary Rensch were can- didates for the class at the carnival and the Juniors worked at the lunch stand. On January 6, 1950 the Juniors received their olass rings. With the help of Mrs. Rowcliffe, the olass ad- visor, the Juniors and seniors put on the play, The Life of Riley ,and in the spring the Juniors gave a banquet for the seniors. After all of their hard work to reach the third rung, they were again prepared for a vacation. Coming back the next fall, the class had once more lost a member, Doris Lebahn. The group looked cheer- fully onward and at the oarnival they at last got a king and queen, Caroline Beyer and Marvin Ellertson. At this carnival the seniors ran the bingo stand. This queen was also the olass president with the king as the vice-president. Rose Mary Rensch was given seoretary- treasure duties. This year the class lost another mem- ber,Eugene Eggebraten. The seniors had their class pic- tures taken at Brookings. Their skip day, May 4 was spent at Bloux Falls, with a banquet from the Juniors on April 28. Valedictorian was Rose Mary Rensch and salutatorlan was Ardath Lingle. Graduation was at last aooompllshed by the class with the motto, The elevator to suoeees is not running; take the stairs. They were making a bid to redeem themselves from an earlier drubbing at the hands of the Flyers. The Rockets returned to Ramona as conquerors the score being 48-42. It was a close contest with the score being tied at several occasions. Robert Rensch and Daniel Wolf gained eighteen and sixteen points re- spectively and with able assistance from Duane Strang, John Strang, and Gerald Palli proved to be just too much for the Franklinites. Ramona regained her pre-holiday form near the close of the season. In their final game, they gave the high- ly tauted Tigers, from Howard, one of their toughest contest in their conquest of District 17. Duane Strang led the part on1 this occasion, netting sixteen points. He was ably assisted by his brother John with three. Daniel Wolf with seven, Robert Rensch and Gerald Palli with two. Their tight defense baffled Howard and it looked like it might be another district upset for 1951, but the Howard boys with their extreme advantage in height made it pay off to the tune of 30-43. 27 BASEBALL T£AA BACK ROW: D.Wolf D.Strang,G.Palll R. Last fall the girls practiced softball for the first two months. They played their one and only game with Canova said Ramona won from them. On November 15, the girls began practicing for the coming basketball season. In preceding years the girls played basketball according to boys rules, but wanting to participate In games with other sohools the girls changed to girls basketball. They scheduled only four games, but proved to be real competitors winning one and losing three. The spring activities for the girls were volleyball and softball.
