The first runner up was Bon- nie Schmid; second runner up was Claudia Shableski; and third runner up was Zanette Prather. The girls competed with each other by bake sales, raffles, babysitting, and a variety of ingenious ways to earn money. A total of ten girls ran for queen this year earning approxi- mately $2400.00 for the year- book staff. The money is used for repairing old equipment, purchasing new equipment, and improving future yearbooks. For guys, athletic shoes, ski vests, belly shirts and track shorts for sports, and even muddy boots were widely seen. Many male teachers sported beards. 200 Although both sexes were fashionable, the girls were really . . in the Spotlight” by experi- menting with various styles. This fall displayed layered looks, cowl necks, boots, pants tucked into boots, and ski jackets. Other styles that doubled for winter and spring were dresses worn over pants. 3-piece or 4-piece pant-suit and skirt ensembles, satin pants with matching short jackets, and tiered skirts with blousons. Hair styles, jewelry and gym clothes followed trends, too. Crimped hair, the “wedge”, and “naturals” were popular. Hair combs and colorful berets were seen constantly. Wearing two necklaces. Koala bears, cowl stick pins, even triple-pierced ears were fashionable. As you can see.
