Our Spirit is Sky High This year, El Aho is being dedi- cated to all of those individuals who have brought spirit to Ramona High School. Coaches, teachers, students, and parents alike have all boosted our school morale. However, just what is school spirit? The students them- selves have expressed it the best. WHAT IS SCHOOL SPIRIT? “Getting strep throat after a game.” — Amber Helsel “When someone has the pride to show they care.” — Gary Curtis “The excitement that each school can produce to cheer their athletic teams on.” — Gus Whitcomb “How much enthusiasm a school has for its team.” — Carl Cox “DOGMEAT” Rod McDonald “I think we have more school spirit than bigger schools.” — Joe Kreinger “I don’t believe in ghosts.” — Kevin Owens “Sky High!” — Amber Helsel DOES SCHOOL SPIRIT HAVE ANY AFFECT ON YOU? IF SO, HOW? “Yes, it makes me prouder of my school.” — Rick Jones “Yes, it makes me feel proud to play sports.” — Robert Welch “Yes, it makes me want to go see the games even if we do lose, cause we’ve got a great team.” — Denise Perdew “Yes, I coach and my athletes perform better when their friends support them.” — Bill Tamburrino “Yes, I am proud of our school even though we do lose some.” — Steve Dietmeyer 6

We’ve Come a Long Way This is the era of opportunity for youth. We have many opportu- nities that our forefathers did not have. Yet many people don’t take time to reflect upon them. For example, today we have free public education. Everyone, regardless of sex or nationality, may attend. Education opens the door to opportunity. It can shape our future. Presently, our world is bursting with knowledge. More scientific advancements have been made in our century than in any other. Expanding knowledge has pro- duced countless occupational opportunities for everyone. This year is truly the time to realize that America is more than flags, freedom, happiness, and patriotism. It offers us a chance to better ourselves and our world. WHAT DOES BICENTEN- NIAL MEAN TO YOU? “Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you.” — Stan Cotey “I think it’s a time people should look back and see what freedom really is.” — Marla Reiss “That no other country has done so much in two hundred years.” — Tony Vaca “We’ve come a long way.” — Christy Kraus “It means spirit, happiness, and love for our country.” — Lisa Hughes WHAT PATRIOTIC FIGURE DO YOU ADMIRE MOST? “Uncle Sam.” — Amber Helsel “George Washington, he got the U.S. together.” — Jim Hall 5
