Dancing in the dark. September, 1945—D. Day (Disembarkation Day) arrived for the Class of 1957. The beginnings of our hefty crew, which has grown with the years, were Deanna Richardson, Joanne Dyche, Wilma Whiting, Gary Gibbs, Doris Smyth, Bob Brister, Carlyle Cripe, Susanna Lee, Linda McIntosh, Phyllis Meissen, Ray MacDonald, Barbara and Beverly Ritchie, plus many others. Thus we began the long, hard trail of education. From the first to the fifth grades, we gained new members to our crew: Gayla Dodge. Louise Sciarretta, and Lynn Minor. These were the years of awakening for us; we began to realize that we were getting older and had more responsibility. Until the sixth grade, we were gullible children. Now we began to have minds of our own. We played marbles, had our own cowboy and injun stories, and some of us decided to become authors, professional bums, explorers, and circus per- formers. Our class members became interested in the art of love. You can still see our romantic inscriptions carved on a tree or bench on the school grounds. Of course, this was just the beginning. We were in the sixth grade and felt our position with pride. We held a unique position of prestige in school because we were the oldest class in the elementary division. Our class gained some more members—- Mary Anne Koch, Iris Perry, and Suzanne Elmer. With this new bit of energy, we buzzed on our merry way. During Junior High days we started to show the characteristics of maturity. We not only grew intellectually and socially, but we were starting to become young ladies and gentlemen. Mary Nielsen, Janice Kelley, Steve Robertson, and Marlene Dahl joined us at this point. The day of June 11, 1953, found us graduating from the eighth grade and ready to enter high school, a class of 49 members all told. In our high school years we gained Alene Thomas. Lucille White. Don Mitchell. Bill Gigstad. Jerry Lambert, Danielle Fulk, Phyllis Cross, Joyce Leggitt, Frank Lewis, Larry Warren, Calvin Miller, Marion Hill, Ginger Kirn, Newell Newlin, and Diana Pomfret. But alas, our total had dropped from the astronomical number of 49 in our Freshman year to 36 graduating Seniors. Our years in high school have been years of progress and change. We accom- plished many things, among them the Junior-Senior Prom “Moonlight and Roses,” “Showboat”—the annual talent show put on by the Junior Class, and the Freshman Reception. Our class has contributed much to sports, helping our school team to victory in the Southern Prep League. Our last contribution to the high school is the class gift—the sign for the front lawn where the school can advertise coming events. As all good things must eventually come to an end, the Class of 1957 leaves the honored halls of Ramona High. We deeply appreciate all that the teachers and students have done for us. In the years to come, we will remember Ramona High School with reverence. The Class of 1957 has many memories of their school days. We hope the school has mahy happy memories of us. f -SIjAva -e Cv - - rVA_c — l C mo 5cti cMi.
