Vice Principal’s Message Due to the fact that my long time of public school work comes to an end this year, I have been asked to write a few words for the El AfTo. To say the least, I appreciate being asked and sincerely thank the El Afio board for this privi- lege. I am not sure, if I had it to do over again, whether I would go into school work or not. Today there is such a multiplicity of opportunities in other fields compared to what it was in my day. Still, I maintain that there is nothing more important that getting a good education, and anyone engaged in this work has a big hand in shaping the future of the people and the world. But a good education means good hard work. Nothing worth while is cheap, and an education is no exception. One may think that he is being smart by choosing the easiest subjects and get- ting by with as little effort as possible, but he is only cheating himself. What has he prepared himself for when he is through? We are living in a highly technical age. There are many jobs of technical nature that are going begging because of no takers. What are we go- ing to do about it? Shall we keep on doing a lackadaisical job at school when the need is so great for specially trained workers? Whether you are planning a technical career or something else, don't cheat yourself. Get the most out of your school work. HAROLD P. ROBERTS I am glad that I have been privileged to have a small part in this great work of education and hope that this world is a better place to live in because of what some of my students over the forty-two years have done. With best wishes to all of you. P, •rdxjCC 55 and School Hoard Left to right: Mr. James McWhorter, Mr. Everette Romine, Mr- Edith Richardson, Mr. James Brantner, Mr. James Raymond.
