FORWARD Fasten your seat belts, and prepare to blast off. We are about to take our first trip into outer space to look over its many wonders. Saturn, shooting stars, and mighty space men will greet you as you make your journey into “Our Universe”. The theme “Our Universe” will carry you through- out the pages of this book to relive the year 1953-54, and to immortalize it for the years to come. This theme also signifies the future, the greatness of a growing world and its treasures that are laid at our feet as we step into space. It has been a good year, so don’t wait a moment longer-----FIRE THOSE ROCKETS----------LET’S GO! 2 •Jip' DEDICATION We the Journalism Class of 1954, hereby dedicate El Ano of 1954 to BETTY B . We are today where our thoughts have brought us; and we will be tomorrow where our thoughts have taken us. We cannot escape the result of our thoughts, but we can endure and learn, or accept and be glad. We almost always realize the vision and ideals of our hearts. We will rise, fall or remain as we are controlled by our thoughts, vision or ideals. So be practical, realistic and idealistic: “Hitch your wagon to a star.” Perry S. Morris Vice-Principal To the Senior Class: Graduation from high school, as you know, is an important milestone in your life. Whether you get a job or continue your formal education, I sincerely hope that the habits you have formed of using good judg- ment, and common sense, initative and co- operativeness will serve you well. Be cheer- ful — be dependable — and the best of luck to you all. L. K. Baker Board of Trustees Left to Right: Mr. Romine, Mr. Brantner, Mr. Raymond, Mr. Kay, Mrs. Warnes. FACULTY Charles H. Snell. CLASS OF ’55 The Junior class started off right away making money for the Prom by having a bake sale and by selling pop at the football games. We received our rings early in the year, and the Seniors were kind enough to let us wear our class sweaters when they came in February. Other money raising projects were a Valentine’s Dance at Bulldog Hall and a movie for which we sold tickets. We tried selling hotdogs at basketball games, but that didn’t work, so we sold popcorn instead. As soon as Second Semester officers were installed, and we had received our beige and brown sweaters, the class started making plans for the Prom, which was held in May. That was the biggest event of the year for us, and now we are looking forward to being Seniors in 1955. Left to Right—David Farmer, Jim Teague, Pat Williams, Paul Flickinger. The Future Farmers of America’s Sweetheart Con- test found Jesse Lang in the running. For the annual Well-Wisher Drive Charlene Huston, our candidate, came in third. In March the carnival came along. The “Ring Toss” and the “Bean Bag Throw” were our projects. The candidate for Carnival Queen was Charlene Huston. We sold popcorn at the football games to increase our treasury for the Junior-Senior Prom next year. We are looking forward to being Juniors next term, still this has been a wonderful year. CLASS OF '57 We Freshmen took a while to get used to the new grind, but once we did, we really got down to busi- ness. First . . . The Curtis Magazine Drive. We placed sec- ond on Subscriptions. Second . . . The Parent-Teacher Association member- ship drive. We again placed second. Then the F.F.A. Sweetheart Contest. We got out of the second place, and our candidate Doris Smyth came in first. The candidate for annual queen was Linda McIntosh. We placed second in raising well wisher money. Our candidate for Carnival Queen was Joanne Dyche. We tried selling cookies, but it was a total loss. In our first year, the treasury didn’t grow, but we did, and we loved every minute of it. _______________________________________________________________ CONTROL BOARD First Semester Row 4: Steve Robertson.
