Many dates had Ramona. Some were pleasant, some exciting, some forgotten. Like snow- flakes in a blizzard the calendar kicked up its white storm, and the days sped by. Too soon, only history remained. As always, September, l957, found the Yankees in first place, but at Ramona a far more hectic pace prevailed. Sophomores wandered aimlessly about, rumors were rife about a closed campus, new friendships blossomed, and coquettish smiles gave promise of romantic dates to come. But as someone has said Cprobably Shakespeare? life isn't all cakes and ale, and the teachers didn't take long in proving this dictum. Piles of homework, vocabulary notebooks, literary notebooks, biology notebooks, and notebooks on notebooks seemed to be the order of the day. Even tests seemed a welcome relief, and finally, at the end of each bitterly long week, came those weekends with their football games, basketball games, those cozy, informal dances --- with their unforgettable dates. So went the year, filled with exam dates, homework dates - and then just dates. Now the months have fled leaving a full and cluttered calendar of fun-filled dates. The i958 ARIES presents DATES with the hope that the memory of friends, teachers, activities, sports, and the town will be indelibly etched as the best DATE ever. The spirit ot the students might be the answer, or maybe the challenge ot C.B.L. competition could explain it. lf everything was taken into consideration, however, and put into a strainer, only the main elements would remain: the coaches and the team. When the year began, the experts picked Ramona for last in almost every sport. The spirit, deter- mination, and skill ot adept coaches and enthusiastic teams proved these seers wrong. Ramona was strong in some sports and weak in others, but no matter what the score was, the team always won in sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Through winning and losing, the teams learned that scores and league standings may be important at the time, but twenty years from now a score of 65-64 won't be remembered, although an encouraging word from a teammate or coach, might still remain. ll . ,. if .ii ,ff . . , A . y .,,, x .
