OS's, working in the 'Nerx e Center' ofa modern Naval vessel ttfoin- 'fir bat Information C enterl, coordinate and conduct various phases of ship operations ff including anti-air, surface and sub-surface warfare, search and rescue QSARSJ, and air control ofall types of naval aircraft, and have a hand in virtually all ship opera- tions. The lT's keep the ship in contact with the rest of the world via short range and long range Cover the horizon, satellitej communications. Their work varies from the maintenance and repair of the Shipas Local Area Networks to actual transmission and reception of message traffic. The IS,s, although seldom seen, gather, decipher and disseminate to a discriminate group pertinent intelligence necessary to maintain vigilance and proper theatre awareness of enemy force movements. Responsible for maintaining most of the ship's topside spaces, as well as seamanship functions, the BM's are the most versatile and undermanned members of the crew. The CTT's operate and maintain electronic equipment used for detection, analysis and identification of emissions in the electromagnetic spectrum, as well as the decep- tion and jamming of many electronic sensors including those associated with electronically guided weapons. Us- ing celestial, land based and satellite navigation systems, the QM's are an integral part of the bridge watch team, constantly updating the Officer of the Deck and the Captain of current ship's progress and calculating courses and speeds to arrive at a destination on schedule. PN's and YN's deal with the actual paperwork of ship's administration. The HM's provide medical services and assistance. The NC is tasked with arrangement of re-enlistements and detailing. And finally, the MA is our local sheriff who is tasked with letting the crew know how not to get in trouble. Some Department! Qperations Qfficer LT Jennifer L. Lorio LTJennifer Lorio, a native of Hephzibah, Georgia, was com- missioned from the U.S. Naval Academy in May 2000 with ia Bachelor's of Science degree in Mathematics. Following Surface Warfare Officer School, she reported to USS MCFAUL QDDG 741 tems from the National University ofSingapore in .lune 2006. Officer in March 2007. Operations Depart I 11 PA RJMEZQQLT as the Combat Information Center Officer in January 2001. ln April 2002, she transferred to USS STUMP CDD 9783 as Training Officer. Upon completion of her division officer tours, LT Lorio attended the Naval Postgraduate School, where she earned a Masteris of Science degree in Operations Analysis in June 2006. She also studied abroad in Singapore and earned a lVlaster's in Defence Technologies and Sys LT Lorio reported aboard USS RAMAGE QDDG 617 as the Operations
