Iformer Commanding Omcer James Dick, ommander Dick is a native of Connecticut and a 1987 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in History with a minor in French. His first assignment upon completion of Surface Warfare Officer School was aboard USS KIDD CDD 9935 where he served as Electronic Warfare Officer, Auxiliaries Oflicer and Damage Control Assistant from December 1987 to July 1991. During that time, KIDD deployed to the Arabian Gulf as part of Operation Desert Storm, serving as an AAW picket ship and conducting Maritime Interdiction Operations. ln August 1991, CDR Dick was assigned to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where he entered the Weapons Systems Engineering curriculum. He subsequently earned a Master of Science degree in Physics and received the 1994 Naval Surface Warfare Center Award for Excellence in Surface Warfare Technology for his thesis on passive infrared ranging systems. Upon completion of Department Head School, CDR Dick reported to USS SAN JACINTO CCG 565 in October . . . . . . . . O 1 t d H 8- 1994 as Engineering Officer, remaining there until June 1998. During this period, SAN JACTNT comp e e a om lex overhaul and de lo ed to the Arabian Gulf with both GEORGE WASHINGTON BATTLE GROUP month c p p y and JOHN C. STENNIS BATTLE GROUP as the Air Warfare Commander. In July 1998, he reported to the USJFCOM Joint Warfrghting Center at Fort Monroe VA where he completed a joint tour in the Modeling and Simulation Development Branch. While at JWFC, he participated rn the planning and . . . . . . d t. S execution of numerous multinational exercises in support of various geographic combatant comman ers, ac ing a the JW FC naval representative for exercises in Germany, Thailand, Kuwait and Egypt. From September 2000 to November 2001, CDR Dick served as Executive Officer in USS KLAKRING QFFG 425 in Mayport FL, completing a UNITAS deployment and an extensive maintenance period and pre-deployment training cycle. In December 2001, CDR Dick reported to the Center for Naval Analyses Operations Study Group as the OPNAV N3fN5 Fellow. He participated in studies on several countries including Australia, Poland and the Baltic states and was a primary contributor to a NATO study on Maritime Theater Ballistic Missile Defense. Reporting to OPNAV N51 in Ma 2003 CDR Dick became involved in a number of projects including development of the National Y 1 Military Strategy, Naval Strategic Guidance and the CJ CS Annual Risk Assessment. After a year as Weapons Officer, he relieved as Combat Systems Officer and completed a 1997 Mediterranean deployment with the JOHN F. KENNEDY Battlegroup in which HUE CITY was Air Warfare Commander. In 1999, he reported to USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER CCVN 695 serving as Reactor Electrical Assistant and Assistant Reactor Officer, completing a Mediterranean! Arabian Gulf deployment in 2000. From 2001 to 2003, he commanded USS DEVASTATOR QMCM 65. While on DEVASTATOR, he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, DEVASTATOR received the 2002 Battle Efficiency award and multiple Retention Excellence awards during his tenure. Commander Dykes completed a two-year tour on the Navy staff in the Strategy and Plans r QN55 Division and he most recently completed a Masters degree while attending the Industrial College of the Armed Forces CICAF5. CDR Dyke's assumed command of USS RAMAGE on February ll, 2007, becoming RAMAGEIS 8th Commanding Oflicer. 1 Executive meer John Barrett, Oct. 2005 - Present c j I Z Barrett is a native of Arlington Heights, Illinois and D 1991 graduate of Marquette University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. His initial division officer assignment was aboard USS THOMAS C. HART CFF 10925 where he served as Electronic Material Officer. Following HART's decommissioning, he was next assigned to USS ARTHUR W. RADFORD QDD 9685 and served as Communications Officer and First Lieutenant. CDR Barrett next joined the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, US Naval Forces Europe, where he served in the Operations Directorate as Asst. Special Programs Officer, Asst. Surface Ops Officer, and Flag Briefer. While in London, CDR Barrett completed a Masters of Science degree in International Business from Boston University. '1 Following graduation from Department Head School, CDR Barrett reported to USS DAVID R. RAY CDD 9715 home ported in Everett WA where he served as Operations Officer. While aboard, he participated in PACMEF 99- 2, and coordinated the scheduling and execution of RAY's complete training cycle for her upcoming deployment. His second department head assignment was aboard USS CAPE ST. GEORGE CCG 711 as Operations Officer. While aboard, CAPE participated in two consecutive BALTOPS exercises in the Baltic Sea, the Royal Navy's Joint Maritime Course QJMCJ in the North Sea, and Joint Combat Interoperability Experimentation and Testing CJCIETJ Exercise along the Gulf coast of Mississippi. CDR Barrett next reported to the staff of Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group THREE as Flag Secretary in September 2002, arriving aboard the flagship six weeks into their historic 9 Z month combat deployment. While embarked aboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN, he participated in Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, SOUTHERN WATCH and IRAQI FREEDOM. CDR Barrett also served concurrently as acting Flag Aide to the Commander for ten months of this tour. In July 2004 CDR Barrett reported to the Army's Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, ghere he completed Joint Professional Military Education phase I, and earned a Master's degree in Military rstory.
