OFFI ER CAPTAIN JOHN J. MclNTYRE at 3 K Captain Mclntyre was commissioned in I952 and served as division officer aboard the USS BLOCK ISLAND CCVE- IOGJ before entering flight training in August l953. After designation as a naval aviator in September l954, he served an extended tour in,EIectronics Countermeasures Squadron TWO based at Port Lyautey, Morocco, and as flight and ground instructor in the naval Air Training Command at Pensacola, Florida. In I962 he earned a Masters Degree in International Relations and Organization at the American University, Washington, D.C., and next completed an operational tour as a Department Head and Patrol Plane Commander in Patrol Squadron 23 operating from Brunswick, Maine. Subsequently assigned as Aide and Flag Secretary to Com- mander Fleet Air, Western Pacific, at Atsugi, Japan, he served two years in that capacity before attending Naval War College in I966Q From I967 through l969, he served first as Executive Officer and then as Commanding Officer of Patrol Squadron 56, where he directed and implemented the fleet introduction of the PSC aircraft weapons system. He was the first P3C Patrol Commander designated in the United States Navy. In December I969, he was ordered to be Officer in Charge of the precommissioning detail of the amphibious assault ship INCHON, and upon her commissioning, he assumed duties as the ship's first Executive Officer during fitting out, shakedown and her first operational deployment in the Sixth fleet. In l972, he reported to the Staff of the Chief of Naval Operations where he directed several studies and analysis projects. He was the head of the Extended Plan- ning Branch, Systems Analysis Division when ordered to command RALEIGH. Captain Mclntyre is married to the former Mary Campbell of Pensocola, Florida. They currently reside in Fairfax, Virginia, with their daughters Deborah and Christine. COMMANDI G
