.,............ I I s I .. THE SAILOR ON LIBERTY THERE'S ONE THING THAT SAILORS AWAIT - ONE AND ALL - AND THAT IS THE SOUND OF THE LIBERTY CALL. LIBERTY MEANS THE SAME THING IN EACH PLACE - A FEW PRECIOUS HOURS AWAY FROM THE BASE. SO WITH UNIFORM PRESSED AND PASS IN HAND, THE SAILOR DEPARTS FOR ' ' LIBERTY-LAND . JUST WHERE HE IS HEADING HE MAY NOT KNOW - BUT OF ONE THING HE'S SURE - HE'LL FIND SOMEPLACE TO GO. A FAVORITE WITH SAILORS WHO ARE LIBERTY BOUND ARE THE NEARBY BIG CITIES THEY'VE PREVIOUSLY FOUND. EQUIPPED WITH HIS PAYCHECK HE'S FEELING CONTENT AS HE PLANS AND CONNIVES HOW IT WILL BE SPENT. WHEN HE REACHES A BAR HE'LL QUICKLY GO IN - AND START ON HIS RAMPAGE WITH RUM, BEER, OR GIN. HE DRINKS A BIT MORE - THEN WHILE RAISING HIS GLASS SPOTS A CHICK ' CROSS THE ROOM AND MOVES IN WITH A PASS. OF COURSE SHE RESPONDS TO THE NAVYMAN9S CHARM - AND BEFORE VERY LONG THERE'S A GIRL ON HIS ARM. MORE POTENT DRINKS AS WE MOVE INTO NIGHT - AND THE TYPICAL SAILOR IS SET FOR A FIGHT. BUT WHEN JUST SUCH A RUMPUS STARTS GETTING IN GEAR - IT'S THE MOMENT THE SHORE PATROL PICKS TO APPEAR!! THE BATTLE IS ENDED 'SOON AS THEY ARRIVE - AS THE BLURRY-EYED SAILOR FOR HIS BEER MAKES A DIVE. THE NIGHT KEEPS PROGRESSING. WITH GIRL STILL IN TOW, THE SLY, DRUNKEN SAILOR SCHEMES OF PLACES TO GO. TOGETHER THEY LEAVE ISUCH WILES HE DOES OWN!I AND HE WISKS HER AWAY WHERE THEY'LL BE ALL ALONE. AT THIS POINT WE9LL LEAVE THEM IITIS ONLY POLITEII BUT NEITHER APPEAR FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT. THE MORNING DAWNS CHEERFUL, THE SUN'S SHINING BRIGHT! BUT OUR FRIEND, THE SAILOR IS NOWHERE IN SIGHT. WHERE WILL WE FIND HIM? THE HOURS ARE FEW UNTIL BACK AT THE BASE OUR SAILOR IS DUE. BUT WAIT! IN THE DISTANCE - WHAT IS IT I SPY? COULD THAT BE A HUNG-OVER SAILOR STAGGERING BY? SOMEONE - REVIVE HIM! GET HIM OUT OF THE STREET! AND WARN HIM ITIS TIME THAT HE START TO BEAT FEET! ASPIRIN!! QUICK!! A FEW SLAPS IN THE FACE!!! GET THAT SAILOR BACK TO THE BASE!!! KEEP HIM MOVING!! HE9LL MAKE IT YET!!! A LITTLE SUPPORT AND HEQLL BE ALL SET. I KNEW HE'D GET THERE ITHE CRAZY CLOWNII IT TAKES MORE THAN LIOUOR TO KEEP A NAVYMAN DOWN!! AS HE FALLS INTO HIS BARRACKS I CAN HEAR HIM SPEAK: THANK GOD I HAVE DUTY THE REST OF THIS WEEK!!!!!!
