Susan Baskin Susan Baskin puts much of her life into Raleigh Egypt. She has kept busyall four years of high school and has given much of herself to her fellow students. Susan was elected Miss Raleigh Egypt and Most School Spirited. She has been a cheerleader for three years and was captain of the varsity squad this year. The Class of '80 has also had her leadership as presi- dent of the sophomore class and vice-president of the senior class. Susan served as S.S.S. President her junior year also. Such leadership qualities earned her the Hugh O'Brien Leadership Award in the tenth grade. In addition Susan was selected as an Out- standing Senior and to Who's Who Among American High School Students. Susan has been on the foot- ball homecoming court for the past three years, win- ning First Alternate her sophomore and iunior years, and Queen her senior year. Susan is also a member of Raleigh Baptist Church. Derrick Smith lt is no wonder that Derrick Smith was chosen to be Mr. Raleigh Egypt! ln the halls. dressed in his suit and carrying his briefcase. Derrick gives a smile to everyone and always seems to know iust where he is going. He has contributed much of himself to various clubs in the school. He was chosen as a Black History club officer for three straight years and is presently the club's presi- dent. Derrick was also elected as a DECA club officer for the past two years and is now serving as the club's president. He was chosen Senior Class Minority Coor- dinator as well. Because of his athletic ability. Derrick has played football for three years. He was selected Most Valuable Offensive Running Back. He has been a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams for the past four years in addition. Derrick's other honors include being a member of the Key Club. being voted Best Dressed, being selected as an Outstanding Senior and to Who's Who Among American High School Stu- dents. ! lfiiuvf if C .a 3 J . - i 5 ,,, ,. 9

1979 Football Homecoming On October 19. 1979. Raleigh Egypt held its annual Football Homecoming. The band brought music to the field with accompaniment for the majorettes and repettes, which was followed by the procession of the Homecoming Court and the crowning of the Queen. Later, music again made its way into the picture by means of the dance. The theme was The Main Event. which describes Homecoming perfectly. A victorious game. spectacular half-time activities, and a spirited dance made this year's Football Homecoming definitely a Main Event. f On the following page are the members of the Homecoming Court.
