Teenagers Of The Week Pepper Dill What two things do Pepper Dill and the REHS band have in common? Why the trombone of course! Pepper has been a member of the band for 4 years and a trombone soloist for 2. He also enjoys playing the banjo. the harmonica, and singing. Among his many honors are National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Student Council President. Pepper has been called to be a preacher and plans to attend Northeast Jr. col- lege. From there he would like to attend a theological seminary in New Orleans. Pa tty Phelan Guilty or not quilty? This is one of the decisions Palzy Phelan will have to make every clay as she pursues a career in law andjurisdiction. Party is a mem- ber of the Church of Ascension and is one of the few female ushersi' in her congregation. She has served the church youth council President and is a member of the Memphis Dioceses Total Youth Ministry Board. Her favorite activity is being a counselor with the Muscular Dystrophy Associa- tion. That was a shame because he received one of the high- est awards given in the Mid-South. The 1978 SPHINX is proud to dis- play his project, Geo- desic Airship - A New Idea . James' model was made of simple metal clothes- line purchased at a com- mon hardware store, but it could support the weight of a full grown man. Why? Because by using principles for geo- desic dome building. an aircraft can be strength- ened many times over present strength. After winning 1977's Mem- phis-Shelby County Sci- ence and Engineering Fair, James took his pro- ject to Cleveland, Ohio. where he competed in the International Science Fair. James is now a student at Christian Brothers Col- lege, where he continues his research of gravity and science. TRACES: HONORS 195

The Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation promotes leader- ship qualities in high school Sophomores. The criteria for selection consists of leadership ability. coopera- tion with fellow human beings. sensitivity to others. and the desire to share knowledge and experience with others. Those chosen to participate in the International Leadership Seminar will interact with top tenth grad- ers from every state in the nation and I2 other coun- tries and with prominent leaders in business, govern- ment. education, and the professions.
