If you look at all successful people. you find that they have one common bond. they are willing to give that extra effort. They are not satis- fied with merely doing what is required. ln order to see if you are will- ing to give that extra effort. you should ask yourself the following questions: Do you take personal interest in everything you do? Do you try to increase your knowl- edge and develop a capacity to assume greater responsibilities? Do you look for ways of doing a job better? Do you make a point of being pleasant and agreeable with people? Do you continu- ously improve yourself mentally. morally, and spiritually? Do you waste time, rush to complete a job. and quit as soon as you have done what is required? No one can compel you to exert any extra effort. This is a decision you must make for your- self. B. E. Our dependable representatives who kept the communication lines covered, were ably coordinated by Donna Bird. Besides the traditional bake sales and car washes, the ranking class participated in a sweater sale, a pot and plant sale, Pink Queen Pageant, Almost Anything Goes, and a Gong Show. The money from those projects and the massive dues drive was in preparation for the two sublime events of a high school career: graduation and the prom. The prom was held at Holly Hills Country Club. Suzy Gray and the other officers accomplished a fine job, the finest ever, in leading the CLASS OF '78 through their greatest year at RALEIGH-EGYPT. -FACES: SENIORS 55 Superior Scholars Y , J A Business I Marche!! That was a shame because he received one of the high- est awards given in the Mid-South. The 1978 SPHINX is proud to dis- play his project, Geo- desic Airship - A New Idea . James' model was made of simple metal clothes- line purchased at a com- mon hardware store, but it could support the weight of a full grown man. Why? Because by using principles for geo- desic dome building. an aircraft can be strength- ened many times over present strength. After winning 1977's Mem- phis-Shelby County Sci- ence and Engineering Fair, James took his pro- ject to Cleveland, Ohio. where he competed in the International Science Fair. James is now a student at Christian Brothers Col- lege, where he continues his research of gravity and science.
