HARRIERS DO IT IN STRIDE With a new coach taking the helm, this year's cross country season was an adjusting year. The season started with an Early Season Invitational Meet at the Trojan Nuclear Site. With 15 teams, Rainier placed in the middle of the pack. The varsity team was always changing with new faces appearing every week. It finally settled down to Tom Ray, Tony Rea, Ken Triplett, John Muck, Glen Thomas, Bob Thomas, and Rex Thomas. The J.V.'s were led by three juniors; Terry Samples, Jim Muck, and Yale Smith. Joy Fleming anchored down the girls team for the second straight year. The Varsity team finished third in the district meet while the J.V.'s finished first. Joy Fleming finished ninth in the girls race. The outlook for next year is very promising. Special awards presented at the Sports banquet were as follows: Most Dedicated Female Most Dedicated Male Most Valuable Male Most Improved Male Team Captains - Joy Fleming - Tony Rea - Ken Triplett - Rex Thomas - Tony Rea, - Ken Triplett Coach ‘Jay Bird' Davies gives a pre-race talk to his team.
