C. Musgrove, N. Foshaug, P. Griffiths, L. Werth, and M. Musgrove enjoy themselves at the hootnanny. GIRLS’ ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION The Girls' Athletic Association this year proved to be very active. On one occassion the girls went swimming at the YMCA and played table- tennis and checkers in the recreation room. They took a bus over to Longview and went rollar skating at the Rolloway and bowling at Triangle Bowl. Just before Christmas GAA had a slumber party and exchanged gifts. On April 16th they sponsored a food drive and held a spaghetti dinner for the Drug Abuse Prevention Center. P. Griffiths, C. Patching, and Miss S. White decorate the Christmas tree for the slumber party. Santa (Mrs. J. Robinson) hands out presents. 25

The Rainier Athletic Club is a club open to any boy with a varsity letter, The club sold pop and sandwiches at basketball games and kept the coke machines in operation in the lower hall. This year proved to be very successful for Contest Speech. They were involved in many tournaments including Pacific University-Regional which included contestants from Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, and Nevada. The most successful tournament was District, which was held at Rainier. Being one of the strongest schools in the district, Rainier sent seven people to state with Howard Werth and Pat Wilson placing 2nd in the Oxford B Division Debate. Rainier is the only school in the district that has placed consistently at state. P. Wilson and H. Werth discussing their speech for the next tournament. R. Pfaff, P. Wilson, R. Gurwell, R.
