XVe lireshmen played a large part in the activities and sports ol the school, beginning by winning second place in the annual pep stunt contest with the skit, A Turkey Day Victoryn. Several ol' the boys were on the basketball team and showed promise for the coming years. R41 1 1 rip. omc conomics The Home Economics Club opened the year under the leadership of Patsy Avrit. president: Pauline Sather, vice-president: Gene Anderson, secretary: Catherine Slierburne, treasurer: Mrs. Ables, adviser. The principal event of the fall was the beautiful formal initiation held on November 8. when tlze freshman girls were received into the club. Representatives from other schools in the county attended. In the spring the club attended the Regional Conference at Clatskanie. Projects during the year included several dinnersg a benefit dance for the Doernbecker Hospital, in conjunction with the F. F. A.: and a tea served at the Hobby Lobby meeting of the Vklomanls Club. The outstanding girls in Home Economics work are awarded a gold Betty Lamp pin, symbol of the club's objectives. Last year pins were awarded to Florence Graycraft, Geraldine Putnam, Lola Sims, and Hazel Sanford. BASKETBALL The Rainier basketball team was in high gear bv the end of the season and showered itself with glorv in taking second place in the league against some strong competition and walking off with a trophy lor third place in the district tournament. Their record was of significance be- cause there were no returning regulars from last vear's team. However, the boys made such improvement that at the district tournament thev lost bv onlv two points to the XXlIlI'llD0 Parkrose team ind then eamf ba le to trounce Se ippoose the league xx in ner, bv nine points. Tommy Nelson and Roland Brusco of the Rainier five were chosen on the All-Tournament team in addition to Nelsons being the high scorer ol the tournament with forty-nine points. Ol' special interest to basketball fans xx as the showing made by the B team. lt looks as if the BH team, which was com- prised of freshmen and sophomores, will be the best basketball team Rainier has had for a number of vears.
