As we, the Rangers of 1963, leave Rainelle, we will remember with pleasure these pastfour years. We entered Rainelle High School in September 1959, an assortment of eager enthusiastic Freshmen, each anticipating a memorable high school career. Mr. Ocheltree welcomed us and introduced the faculty. Losing no time, we elected Joe McClung as president of the Freshman Class. The year which followed was filled with some new faces and novel experiences for each of us. Study halls and noon activities were welcomed during these hectic days of endless home- work and periodic biology projects. Wholeheartedly, we participated in all school functions and became active in a variety of extra-curricular activities. Right from the beginning our school spirit was evident and it never once diminished during our succeeding years at Rainelle. We returned in our Junior year feeling like ole-timers . Mr. McClung and Mrs. Meadows were chosen to lead us through this busy year. Tim Hanley was elected president of the Junior Class. The traditional Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet were roaring successes and the theme Let Me Call You Sweetheart was a perfect way to end a perfect year. Our Senior year finally arrived, but it progressed much too quickly. Cheryl McCombs'was elected Homecoming Queen and Jo Ann Cooper was Senior attendant. Football season ended with our mighty Rangers emerging victoriously with a perfect season and Southern Conference Title. A week later the Rangers defeated Marlinton to win the Greenbrier Valley Athletic Con- ference. The Rainelle Rangers waited eagerly for the final rating which would entitle them to play in the State Class A Play off. Our Football Team, under Coach Zopp and Coach Hylton, defeated Sophia for the State Championship. ' Along with the Christmas Holidays, came Basketball season and a team of which to be ex- ceedingly proud. . Seniors rings, announcements and other activities, kept us in a mad whirl during the re - mainder of the year. Although we may have complained about our lack of spare time, we really enjoyed every moment of every day. With invaluable education and practical knowledge received from Rainelle High School, we are now prepared for the responsibilities of adulthood. Our weaknesses have been replaced by sterling qualitiesg the desire for improvement has been instilled within. Thank you R.I-LS. for four of the most challengingand rewarding years of our lives. These are the days to be remembered. These few brief years will live with us in later years, as we have lived for them today. Yesterday is but a memoryg today is soon gone, but tomorrow lives forever. AS FOR THE FUTURE, IT IS NOT TO BE TREADED ON LIGHTLY, NOR WITH FEAR, BUT WE MUST APPROACH IT WITH A CALM REASON. 3 . 5:23 A z I, Q3 is? of
