Such was the story of the Flying Tigers Football team of 1972-73. Their success was marred only once by Southeast, A great deal of their success was due to one of the most potent and explosive backfields in the Mid-State 3-A con- ference. This was led by Prince Deese trightl who scored 30 touchdowns, devastating a school record. Along with him at the halfback position was jimmy Bolding tbottom rightl who complemented Deese's running. The third weapon in the Tiger backfield was Charles Halipilias tbottom leftl. Charles, who sat out most of the season with a back injury, was well replaced by Ed johnson. Charles roared back in post-season play, making up for lost time. The team as a whole showed its colors by taking the Mid-State 3-A title and advancing to the Semi-finals of the State playoffs. They played valiantly against the Mountaineers, but bowed, as they were outsized by their opponents. 56 Football l , ..,, has X ,Aw V 4. Sean O'Kane - President Marshall Hurley - Vice President fn I ,,,,, If Gini Stout- Secretary just what is the purpose of the Student Congress? People do not have any answer for that question. First, it should be clarified that we do not have a student government. We do not have the authority in many cases to make school policy decisions. What we really try to be is the connecting link between students and faculty and administration. We try to express the student body's ideas and to get them into action when and if possible. Two main objectives of the Student Congress this year have been: iii To encourage students to take an active part in the school and the many activities it offers, and l2l Probably the most important, to create a sense of humanity within the school among students, faculty and administration. We stress this last objective most because we feel getting along with people is something all of us will have to do for the rest of our lives. We feel we have been successful in some measure in creating this sense of humanity, but this growth should by no means stop when school is dismissed for the summer. The students returning to Ragsdale next year should take advantage of this opportunity and build on to it. It could be the most important thing we ever learn. As for the seniors who are leaving Ragsdale, in many cases in places new to us, we hope you'll be able to use this sense of helping others to make friends -for us to be better and happier young adults. The Senior Class Officers are tl-rip lody Tester - Vice-Pres., Charles Halipilias - Pres., Sherrie Rich - Secretary, Leigh Puryear - Treasurer. This is it . . . the year. Your year. After two long years of struggling and sweating it out, you've finally reached the top. You're a Senior now and deserving of all those rights that go along with the position... all those rights you somehow never get. But who cares . . . you're a SENIOR. Everything seems to move in fast motion, passing you by as you try to savor a familiar moment one final time: your last ball game, your last prom, your last exam . . . your last walk down Senior Hall . But maybe in all the rush you'll take the time to look around, look at the people . . . your friends. Friends who have been with you since elementary school have changed now. Each one has his own interest, his own idea of life, his own future. You realize you have all become in- dividuals, still dependent, yet forced into indepen- dence. You know you must say good-bye to some good friends, but you know, too, that life is just beginning and the world is yours. Good luck, Seniors, your time is now. Live! l rg. , -nn. Sometime between the last year in junior High School and the first year in High School, a sophomore is born. You don't see much of this strange young creature for at least a week, just two gigantic eyes searching for room numbers and a gigantic smile searching for acceptance. Somehow though, you have a feeling he'll make it. . . you did, didn'tyou? Soon that awesome feeling of being at Ragsdale High School wears down to the comfortable feeling of being just a part of another life . . . and it isn't so awesome after all. People quit giving you those long, questioning stares and the snickers which used to follow you down the halls are no longer heard. You're in . . , whether you like it or not. Anyway maybe someday, when you've earned the honorable privilege of being a senior, you will carry in your heart a soft spot of memory and you will be kind to that strange young creature known as the sophomore.
