The Rifle Club was started three years ago by Mr. Hendren and Mr. Ellson. Last year they were in competition for the first time. They will not enter competition this year because all the experienced shooters graduated last year. There are so many that it is necessary to have practice two tirnes a week. They hold this in the annex of the Wayne Grammar School. They have relays, in which four shoot at one time. The girls have to buy their own ammuni- tion, but the boys have theirs supplied to them, because the Rifle Club is a prepara- tion for the armed service. E. Williams, M. Groff, B. Thompson, P. This year, as usual, the Lapidary Club has been one of the most popular clubs in the school. Although the membership has been smaller than usual, due to lack of free pe- riods, many of the members come after school to work on their jewelry. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Forrest Lenker, the mem- bers have made many beautiful things such as identification bracelets, pins, ear rings, rings, and bangle bracelets. A few of the members have cut stones and set them into rings, lockets, or bracelets. The officers this year are: Barbara Thompson, Presidentg Palmy DeIoseph, Vice-Presidentg Iean Irwin, Secretary, and Margie Groff, Treasurer. LHPIDHRY Cl-UB P. Lynam, T. Todd, I. Van Stone, P. The Student Leaders is an organization composed of twenty-two Upper School Girls who assist Miss Encke, by officiating at intramurals and in physical education classes. They help teach the fundamentals and techniques of the various sports and games to the lower grades. Because of the broad intramural program, the student leaders referee hockey, softball, and basket- ball games and are indispensable for their assistance with all the athletic details for girls' sports. These girls are usually out- standing in Radnor's athletic program and are of good standing in physical education work. STUDENT LEADERS P. McCreary, B. Thompson, T. Todd, M. Fur- ber, I. Thomas, I. Purdy, T. Frey, M. Hartshorn, M. Mell, Miss Encke, Mrs. Ramsey, Miss Fisher, Miss Zer- foss. The job of selling and taking tickets at football and basketball games is done by this group of girls, under the sponsorship of Miss Fisher, aided by Miss Encke, Miss Zer- foss, and Mrs. Ramsey. All athletic aides check on passes, student activities tickets, and general admissions. This work is not easy but has been done efficiently and faith- fully throughout the year by these girls. Radnor Upper Merion . Radnor Abington .... Radnor Lower Merion .. Although our football team boasted no spectacular record, we are still proud of the showing they made. The record of four Wins and six defeats does not give the true pic- ture of the Way the boys fought all through the season. This has been the best season since 1944, Coach Iules Prevost and his as- sistants should be given plenty of credit for turning out the machine that they did. Every opponent knew that they were in a ball game when they came up against the scrappy bunch of boys that Radnor fielded. Many a team found it hard going against our strong line defense. Had our offense been up to par with our defense, things might have been much different. Better luck next year, gang. 3'0- f 3 it Wi HOCKEY First Row: I. Thomas, P. Lynam, L. Foeller, P. Sweet, C. Radnor's 1947 hockey team entered the season with a team depleted by eight letter girls but fired with the ambition to carry on 1946's record of eleven straight victories. Captained by Tina Todd, the team was molded by Miss Encke into a hard-hitting, accurate-passing line, Which, combined with a determined defense, swept Radnor through its second successive unbeaten sea- son, with the proud record of twenty vic- tories for 1946 and l947. Ethel's Aces of this year out scored their opponents nineteen to four and gained an enviable reputation in the World of hockey. As a fitting climax to this year's success- ful season a delicious dinner for the hockey and football teams was served by the fac- ulty. Ye editors have searched the records of neighboring schools, and to date have been unable to discover in any other hall of learning so blessed with a cooperative, gen- erous, and peppy faculty. The seniors leave, confident that the torch Will be carried high by l948's squad. Tn 9 ,ls 1 Q,1f lm ,Mi Nivrff BOYS' BASKETBALL Coach Ellis Dwyer is now entering his fifth season as basketball coach at Radnor and is hoping to turn out another of the scrappy quintets for which he has become noted. Having only two-letterrnen back from last year's team, Dwyer hopes to build the team around them. In the campaign to date the boys have won five and lost four in non- league competition. Again this year the Raiders placed second in the Rotary Tournament, losing out to Coatesville in the finals. We're behind the team all the way, and we know that Dwyer will turn out a winning combination. First Row: F. Paolino, R. Morgan, P. D'Amico, T. Beadle, I. Dorsaneo, I. Benigni, B. Risk, P. In pre-season practices lU2 girls reported. The girls were divided into A and B squads. Squad A formed the Varsity and Iunior Var- sity teams, and Squad B the 3rd and 4th teams. Excellent ball handling, fast breaks, ac- curate shooting, combined with a shifting zone defense, have made this another out- standing team. Lacking the height of past years, the determined effort, cooperation, and Radnor spirit have been responsible for another successful season. Miss Encke's excellent coaching did much to make such a fine team. First Row: P, Webb, V. Hale, N. Rice, C. Peterson M. Mell, I. Thomas, P. Sweet, A. Coppola, P Lynam, I. Van Stone.
