Along with a respect for each student's need to find harmony with her pre-coiiegc experience, it is the purpose of Radford College to offer to its students a community in which they may find that intellectual, cultural, social, and personal challenge which will facilitate their entrance into adult society. Have fun while you can for tomorrow classes begin. 4 The steps of knowledge await oncoming students. Radford's latest addition still in the works: Curie. 55 Radford College provides areas of concentration emphasizing academic, professional, technical, and vocational goals. In connection with these areas of concentration and in keeping with its traditions, the College offers a comprehensive program in teacher education. The College has grown through the years not only in size, but also in its purposes SO as to include a broader curriculum in the arts and sciences. The Virginia Commonwealth flag displays a tradition. Flying free, the American Flag is always in existence. RADFORD - A PLACE WITH A PURPOSE In the background the President's home reflects leadership. FRESHMAN TRAVEL A NEW PATH To an entering freshman Radford seems to have an environment all its own. Radford attempts to bridge the path from high school to coliege by Orientation the first week of Fall Quarter and Freshman Assemblies held each Wednesday evening during that quarter. Parents' Weekend was held in October for the freshman parents and students. Freshman Indentification was held May 2, 1971. This was the time when freshman who have made a contribution to their class and college were recognized. Twelve freshman chosen by their classmates as the most outstanding citizens were announced. 60 As the wind blow's, two dedicated students study. For peace and quiet: John Preston McConnell Library. This Band presented an outstanding repertoire of concert music. In February the Pennsylvania Ballet and Symphony Orchestra, a youthful company of 35 dancers encompassed classic, dramatic, romantic, and modem dances. The company roster is international with dances hailing from Yugoslavia, Frances, Australia, Japan, Brazil and a dozen states of the United States. The Pennsylvania Ballet triumphed in its New York debut in 19t 8, and has since toured the nation, winning unanimous acclaim. From each Freshman Dorm a representative was chosen to represent her dorm at the Ball. The Freshman Class then voted for a Queen to reign over the Ball. Rosilyn Simon of Richmond, Virginia was chosen Queen by the Class of 1974. She represented Tyler Hall. Bill Deal and the Rhondclls of Virginia Beach, Virginia provided the entertainment for the evening of true splendor. A happy time was had by all, as can be seen by this young man. It is a dormitory containing 950 students. The occupants of the dorm are mainly upperclassmen. Muse Hall was built at the location where Founder's Hall once stood. Muse was completed in 1970 and named for Leonard G. Muse, the first Rector of the Radford College Board of Visitors. Self-contained facilities include a dining hall, snack bar, study and dating lounges and sundecks. Rising above all: Muse. SORORITY SISTERS COMBINE STUDY AND FRIENDSHIP Once a quarter, the sororities and dance clubs hold rush parties in the recreation rooms of various dorms. They display various items they have accumulated over the years, and the sisters and club members explain their purpose and history of the organization to the rushccs. Refreshments are served and there is an exchange of questions as the rushees and sisters get to know each other. Each dorm on campus elects a representative to the Carnival and occupies a booth the peo pic of their dorm has decorated. In behalf of their representative each dorm attempts to raise money in their booth. A Campus Carnival Dance was held Friday, November 13 and the following night, Saturday, November 14, the annual Campus Carnival was held in Peter's Hall. A few flakes of snow will never upset the daily routine of going to class. 78 Tyler Hall shows it's spirit with a human Christmas tree. Even the simplest things capture the beauty of Christmas. 79 VISITING SCHOLARS ENLIGHTEN THE RADFORD COLLEGE STUDENT BODY The Visiting Scholars Program was established to present Radford College students and faculty members the latest and most outstanding scholarship developing at institutions of higher learning in America and abroad. That was the question in the minds of Radford College students last year. This year the fountain was completed and during its beginning operation in Fall Quarter it became a source of soap bubbles to many students. The fountain, 60 feet in diameter, has a circular bench and is a focal point for sidewalks extending from it in a radial pattern. 89 I think, therefore I am. A TEA IS GIVEN IN HONOR OF PROSPECTIVE RADFORD GRADUATES AND THEIR PARENTS Conversation between the Parents. Conversation between parents, student and faculty. The Spiritual Enrichment Committee schedules the Collegiate Sermon Series which brings to the campus outstanding ministers and theologians from various denominations once a quarter. In addition to these. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter pro-g-ams were sponsored by the Committee and Student Religious Organizations. A student is congratulated. A proud parent. Once each quarter, a convocation is held in Preston Auditorium so faculty may honor the graduating seniors. Both faculty and students parade into the auditorium where an invited guest speaker delivers an address which is open to the student body and community.
