Visiting Scholars Heighten Student Interest David R. Vlace The University Center in Virginia presented distinguished speakers to the College through the Visiting Scholar Program. In conjunction with the College Lecture Series, a variety of topics were the subjects for various lecturers. W. Herman Bell, Jr. in the Fall spoke on The Nubian Nile. His very interesting lecture was supplemented with numerous color slides and anecdotes of personal experience. Other visiting scholars for the 1969-1970 circuit were Dr. Myron Winick, David R. Mace, William Frankena, and Giles Constable. This year the National Audubon Society Series presented a number of lectures, the first of which was about the Galdpagos Islands. The speaker used a color movie with excellent wildlife scenes as an additional aid for the audience. Giles Constable 24

Collegiate Sermons Stimulate Student Interest The Collegiate Sermon Series is scheduled by the Spiritual Enrichment Committee. Through this series, outstanding clergymen and theologians of different faiths are asked to speak at the College. During the Summer Quarter, Dr. James McAllister, Chairman of the Religion and Philosophy Department at Mary Baldwin College delivered the Collegiate Sermon. In the Fall, the Junior Class presented the Rabbi Donald R. Berlin of Temple Emanuel in Roanoke, Virginia. Bishop L. Scott Allen, Bishop of the Hoiston Conference was sponsored by the Sophomore Class during Winter Quarter. In addition to these. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter programs were sponsored by the Committee and Student Religious Organizations. Rabbi Donaid R. Berlin 26
