November Brought Parents And Alumni To The Campus Parents Weekend and Homecoming activities were held November 1-3, 1968. From Friday to Sunday, the program planned for the visitors was entertaining as well as informative. Parents and alumni had the opportunity to meet the mcml crs of the faculty and administration from the program Meet the Administration Dedication of Young Hall, which opened Fall Quarter, was held. Young Hall, the new administrative and faculty office building named for retired Dr. Kol ert J. Young, greatly helped the Radford facilities. A portrait of Dr. Charles K. Martin. Jr., commissioned by the Alumnae Association was unveiled in the John Preston McConnell Library. Great Expectations , a discussion of the educational expectations of college students, faculty, and parents was held in McGuffey Hall. The Aquamaids, Orchcsis, Perl Coats, and the Highlanders performed for the large crowd of parents, alumni, friends, and dates present on the RC campus. Afterwards Freshmen had Open House in their residence halls. The sorority rooms and the Physical Education Department were also open to the visitors. On Sunday, sponsored by the College's Collegiate Sermon Series, the Reverend Alfred A. McBride spoke in the Preston Auditorium. Father McBride. Assistant Professor of Catechetics at the Catholic University of America spoke on The World Prophecies to the Church . Parent enjoyed the panel discussion l y students, faculty. The Highlanders Dr Martin, wife, daughter, and grandson look at the portrait in the Library, unveiled at Homecoming. A Undent art erhibit was held for the visitors. 16

Registration, Orientation — Time Consuming And Confusing Processes Fall registration opened Radford greeting a record-breaking 3,614 students for enrollment. Nearly one-third of this total arrived from twenty-five states and seven foreign countries. These figures represent an increase of approximately one hundred over last year’s enrollment. Tire gain is attributed to an increase in the numlrer of seniors doing student teaching. Along with the increased enrollment, the new facilities of Young Hall were opened with the new facilities of Peters Hall near completion. New degrees were added to top the starting of the '68-‘69 school term. Orientation, which lasted for three days, acquainted the freshmen to the college life at Radford. Sophomore Counselors aided their counsclccs in adjusting to the new rules and procedures by portraying “Big Sisters” to the freshmen. Junior Residents and House Fellows joined in the orientation program. The program consisted of lectures, lx ok studies, tours, a meeting of the administration, and a general Handbook Test. The Handbook Test is required before the student, freshman or transfer, may engage in social activities. Payment of fees is the first step. Mixers were held to acquaint the Freshmen. Handbook tests had to be taken before engaging into social activities. 15
