'. . WAIT A SECOND . Are you forgetting something? Before you go on glancing at the pictures and scanning the pages, won't you wait and let us give you a key to its scheme and purposes? OUR THEME is the New Look at Radford College. This we chose because in each of our four years we have seen Radford College change and grow, and We feel this is the essence of our Alma Mater-the change and growth of each individual. We find the New Look in our faculty. We know their experience, guidance, and understanding will be ever new, ever more inspiring to those who follow after us. We see the New Look on the campus, not only in the new build- ings to be completed, but also in the increasing facilities and op- portunities we have as Women's Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. We meet the New Look on the friendly faces of the girls of Radford College. Their optimism, their courage, and their ever-new approach to the problems of their generation-these are parts of college life we shall never forget. OUR SCHEME is to carry out the feminine element of the New Look. We feel this is very appropriate for the annual of a Woman's college. Our plan- ning is exemplified in part by the cover design, the color scheme of blue and white, the Hy leaf map of the future Radford campus, the senior poses, the new views, the modern layouts, and the introduc- tion of blue division pages with our staff artist's drawings typical of college life. OUR AIMS have been many. Our first was to give you the very best yearbook you have ever had. We wanted to combine in this annual all of the things that make Radford College what it is: the friends you have, the things you do, the memories you hold. We hope the value of this book will increase with every day, every year that passes. 'THE 1948 BEE HIVE STAFF W aggigf' ,- L- ' 'Q T e Bee we R 1. liil . if R if ga Dedication . . . As Seniors, we have reached the last lap of our rung looking back, we view four glorious years in which our Alma Nlater has contributed much to our well-being-- spiritually, mentally, socially and physically. Although, as Freshmen, the road seemed difficult four years ago, we slowly but surely grew under the continuous encouragement and guidance of our administrative statl, who patiently stood by, watching with intense interest. It is our hope that we, the Senior Class, have given something iII return to Radford College for that which she has so graciously given each of us. There have been added responsibilities which brought many changes, but we accepted them with eager anticipation, knowing that each provided opportunity for our growth and development. YVC shall look back on our college days as the happiest ones of our lives. NVC will hold dear the many friendships that we have Inade. Those wonderful days spent together as one happy family will linger within our memories forever. And now we close the pages of this book and look to the future, with sincere hope that We may give to others the knowledge that Radford has so proudly given to her ..........1,1't'.Y1ilit'71l . . , . . . . Marffzals . . . .Spomor Although it seems incredible, that long-dreamed-of day will become a reality, and we will be Seniors come September, 1948! How well we remember our insecure Freshman days when we looked up to the Seniors with respect and awe, wondering if we would ever attain such glorious heights. And then came the distinction of being differentiated from those green, green Freshmen. Were we proud to be able to show them around our school! But, as our Sophomore year drew to a close, we began to think more deeply about the future and about the many changes we might wish to make, for with our Junior year we embarked upon the second half of our college careers. We became Juniors, and that was wonderful! It has been a Wonderful year, too-a year packed with delightful experiences both in work and play, though a few were not quite so delightful, all, however, have contributed to our growth and understanding. Remember our assembly programs! It was fun and worth while, despite the head- aches! And those additional Junior privileges, we finally got them-hurrah for our side! And how could we ever recall our Junior year without remembering our Godfather, Dr. Minor Wine Thomas. Yes, it has been a full year and one we shall always remember with a feeling of Warmth and pride-our Junior year at Radford College. ., tsii e E ,dai . ,fi AQ- 12 A , 'f -.J r- f' ,-i- .g5 1 bj'5?5-,V a '.- '- ...- all . 1 - -' . , ,1T'L. 2Q ,.' f-',.', ,e'.' We have been happy living together as one big Tyler family. The sophisticated sophomores of Madame Russell were replaced by freshmen. Remember the Wonderful times we had planning our house parties, our assembly program, dancing around the Maypole, and attending the social events at Tech. Appvsijq, The Freshman Class this year is one ofithe largest in the history of Radford College, and it ings yflrs C9 g from many states and even Puerto Rico. We will never forget our first week of college-wearing name tags, trying - ' ' to find our way around the campus and in the Ad Building, and learning the names of our many professors and friends. One of our major problems was getting accustomed to our schedules and learning which classes we had on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridaysg and which on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. L, 3 1, 49617 As we became more grown up and better acquainted with our fellow students, we were ready to elect 4 3 z L'- our class officers at the end of the Fall Quarter. We chose Annette Iannuzzi, of Lexington, as our president. Our other officers are Jean Bastian, vice president, Nancy Repass, secretary, Wilma Nicewonder, treasurer, Anita Stewart, Carolyn Jeifress and Patsy Cox, Student Council Members, and Lena Belle Belton and Carrie Bigger, Marshals. For our faculty Advisor, we elected Mrs. Nancy Patterson. Our class participated in many social activities this year: Among them our own reception, our ball, and our banquet. The winter quarter saw us at V. P. I., attending the sets and many of the concerts. We were really stepping out. Through our membership in the various campus organizations, we have shown our talent and ability. Will we ever forget our freshman assembly? As the year draws to a close, we feel proud of our accomplishments, not only in our studies, but also in ' our associations with fellow students and the faculty. We are looking forward to next fall, when we will be 0 Sophisticated Sophornoresf' Q an g ' M ' X 1397 J 'I' ..,..-3 Q ' ' ff- td, 22 - -:frm-caaiiiia. egg-.QMQV - 'Q i -I in ill gg: 2: f i: ,LJ f::::::-mums, .'m1-m1.w:.f.ad ills 1:-ll - 5 'T' ' A ' - if 'T f ,,.. In a reminiscent mood, we remember the new sororlty room, scrubbing Windows, cleaning, redecorating, and moving furniture. Of course, one could not forget the delicious turkey dinner at Hotel Governor Tyler, November IS,Wl'1CI1 Alphas celebrated their founder's day. Mary Louise Hodges was then presented as Alpha's Sweetheart for IQ4'7.,, In January, Alphas entertained for the rushees at the traditional Cover Girlu party. The months of the year were depicted by the members. No one will Bunny VV1ll1ams, first cousin to Bugs,', as Easter. Of course, Sarah Turkey Noell's being chased by Farmer Brown, who was determined to get that old bird, cannot be for- gotten either. forget Marie Alpha entertained Lambda and Sigma, April 3, with a ball at Governor Tyler Hotel. In May, Alphas moved bag and baggage to Camp Coffee for a Week-end. There everyone got in her share of K. P., and perhaps more than her share of sun. Naturally, no one got any sleep. i NOW it is June, and everyone is saying good-bye. So it is until, in another year, We Will see you again and miss you who won't return to R. C. . . Our love in A. S. The Founder's Day tea, honoring the faculty and members of the other sororitiesg the party at iiMOlHmlSS,,, where we collected and wrapped gifts for our Christmas family, the exotic Night in Paradisev rush partyg the familiar green blazers and caps dotting the campus and in the local theatres as we conducted the March of Dimes Driveg the truly memorable Sweetheart Ball, when all Lambdas, including alumnze, had their best beaus for the private dance given in honor of our new sisters at the Governor Tyler Hotelg the cabin party in the spring, where there was little sleep but much laughter-all of these were part of our Lambda year. Sorority sisters ne'er forget . . . As these Words are sung in the last friendship circle of the year, we look around at the many faces who will be gone from that circle next year and feel a sense of loss. We look back over the year and think of the part they have played in making it a success-of the pleasant hours spent in camaraderie, and we know we shall ne'er forget. We look, too, at icMOH1mlC,, Daniel, who has seen many Lambda girls come and go and who has contributed more than any other one person to making Lambda the organization it is today-one of which we are truly proud. So it is to these girls-the seniors-and to Mommie that we alfectionately dedicate this page. f I l ,Q l114l if 4 ' - gi , tri -v, Ii: - fgat'-fi T we ee we A: gvfg ' L Eff 1 '. l il W as Q f w :ww If cm x LL' wmm in f an xg mm ' N mms. was 3 as . . G. Herbrecht, presented as an outstanding annual event at the College. Into the story had been woven the underlying philosophy of the new United Youth Program of the Protestant Church- Christian Youth Building a New VVorld. This theme was developed in the characteri- zation of Reuben, the restless young shepherd- Who, dreaming on the hillside about the coming of a new and better world in whose making he might share-finds the answer to his quest in the Manger King, to whom he dedicates himself. ' Christmas music, sung by the Choral Club presented by the Choral Club in cooperation RUBY RANISEY, Madonna , greatly accentuated the beauty of our pageant. It was with the Young VVomen's Christian Association. ' S ff!
