In presenting the administrative staif of the College, we would remind the reader that under the present capable administration the institution has grown from a student body of four hundred to one of seven hundred, that it continues yearly to expand, and that since its consolidation with Virginia Polytechnic Institute, state appropriations have provided for the acquisition of additional land and the con- struction of added facilities that will insure the steady continuance of that progress already realized. And now, to continue the historical theme of our book, we would further remind the reader that the College was founded in IQUIO by the good State of Virginia, and on historic ground 5 for Radford lies in old Montgomery, in that area first explored by stout hearts from Fort Henry, now Petersburg, in the memorable year 1671, New River, between the sister campuses of Radford and Blacksburg, being the first ofthe western waters discovered by the Eng1ish,and the Narrows, in Giles, being the site where formal claim was first laid to the Mis- sissippi Valley in the King's name.
