IN THIS ANNUAL the scrolls are but the divi- sions between the pages, but to us they are the symbols of all our experiences in Radford--the happy times and the sad, the laughter and the tears, the hard work, the sportsmanship, and above all, the friendship. THE CLASS OF i947 presents this edition of the OCOTILLO in the hope that years from now we may unroll these scrolls of love, laughter and happi- ness, and live again our days at Radford. To you, the Senior Class of 1947, I extend my sincere good wishes. You will leave Radford with mingled feelings of joy and regret. With joy that you have successfully completed your ipreparatory work and are ready to begin your college careers. At the same time you will regret leaving the old familiar scenes, your many friends here and the happy times you have had in Radford. ln later years you will look back upon these carefree days and realize just how happy you were in Radford and how very dlear the friends are who shared your joys and worries during your high school years. We are reluctant to let you go and we want you to remember that Radford is your second home. We will rejoice with you in any success that may come to you and we will be very proud of every honest effort you make to contribute to the better- ment of society. We salute your membership in our distinguished alumnae society. Lucinda de Leftwich Templin Princiipal m. .. X u,,f,w,1x,',,.f,f1-, 1 pa, 0 V u ,:,.4,.. She often bore the brunt of our anger and our desipairg but she guided us to the ending we knew was right. She will be remembered as a true friend who was always there when our hearts nee-ded consolation. We choose her for the honor that we cherish above all others. The Class of I947 dedicates this GCOTILLO, with pride and find regards to Miss Cornelia Porterfield. -' J . -'vi rr i fxffv - Ai sfxf VX X' XL, Lflxf Qifx-, I 'Z-If J -f'1,,kfNfXflfL' if mm Q IL 40' fx '4l1f9 I af J- L J If Ji' N .INK .fx U fffs Ssniozi . . Having been your sponsor for this y-ear will be one of my most cherished memories. lt is both a great honor and a difficult task to bid farewell to fond friends. lt is a great honor because I have the opportunity to wish you luck in new an interesting days that are to come. We know that, whatever the chosen field, your days at Radford will have prepared you to make new adjustments easily. lt is a dif- ficult task because sentiment enters into the association we have had together. Past memories, -Juarez trips, senior parties, the Senior Play, carol singing at dawn, and lunch at Welcome Inn, - present problems and your outlook for the future, have formed for us a close bond of friendship. Your co-operativeness, your gaiety, and your sincerity, are qualities that you will carry forth over new thresholds. In this same way the Student Council serves its :purpose at Radford, --it is the student's North Star. By the position and attitude of the Student Council, we set our course of behavior. It is our desire to follow this pathway straight through the years, but sometimes we falter. Then we again look for reassurance and guidance. In return for this trust we receive without fail a fresh set of directions and a vote of confidence that says, Straighten Up and Fly Right. 32 'yin Standing: Jeanette Abercrombie, Dannie Beyette, Art Editor, Bonny Beyette, Leone Paltenghe, Ann Perrenot. Ocotillo Staff THE FIRST RADFORD ANNUALS were collections of draw- ings, pictures, and literature, which the seniors arranged in their own individual scrap books in Art Class. Last year the Class of l946 had the honor of producing the first bound edition of the OCOTILLO, and it has been our privilege to continue their precedent and to exipand our l947 edition to include portraits of the Juniors. We hope that those who follow us will be able to add other features with each suc- ceeding year. C355 34 5 4 2 1 4 1 Front: Ann Perrenot, Ass't.
