OAK LEAF ' Yineteeiv jYujif j ' ecl cirul Published by the Students of RADFORD HIGH SCHOOL Radford, Virginia Historical Places Of Radford The Colonel Radford home, now a part of the high school campus. The City Hall which was destroyed by fire July 2, 1950. Radford as it appeared in the 1890’s depicting the railroad station, the Delp Hotel, a boarding house, and homes still occupied today. FOREWORD THE BLUE AND THE GRAY By the flow of the inland river, Whence the fleet of iron have fled, Where the blades of the grave-grass quiver, Asleep are the ranks of the dead: Under the sod and the dew, Waiting the judgment day; Under the one, the Blue, Under the other, the Gray. These in the robings of glory, Those in the gloom of defeat, All with the battle-blood gory, In the dusk of eternity meet: Under the sod and the dew, Waiting the judgment day; Under the laurel, the Blue, Under the willow, the Gray. The 1959 Radford High School football team is worthy of our highest praise. The ’Cats possessed a gallant fighting spirit on and off the field and will be remembered as the team that did not surrender to any odds. The combination of polished playing ability and admirable sportsmanship made the ’59 Bobcats one of the greatest football teams ever to be assembled “on the hill.” It is with deep pride and great satisfaction that we salute the Radford Bobcats of 1959 DISTRICT SIX FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS — 10 — TEACHING opportunity of to create hap- I was given t inspiring othe: piness. asked for wealth I was given the rare privilege of awakening others to success. asked for love I was given association with those whom could benefit by being loved. asked for wisdom I was asked to impart wisdom to others. asked for peace And found that I already had peace because I AM A TEACHER fiacuHn MR. We’re running around like chickens aloof Raising dear Cain, not to mention the roof. Will we survive is the question we raise, If we do, comes the answer, we’re deserving of praise, And though praise never comes, we struggle on, Meeting the deadline with the coming of dawn. And now we depart, our eyes filled with veins, Our lungs filled with smoke, dull clouds in our brains. But we leave all victorious, and we lift up our cry, “If we’ve messed this thing up, we’ll turn over and die.” — 130 — Autographs • • • ft. C. s ., y . tn.., 4 h c Psr ry%QR O vy y — 132 —
