All through the year another type of echo was heard from the hill, for this was the year of evaluation at Radford High School. Members of the faculty spent long hours discussing and evaluating the good and the bad features of the school. In April the Evaluation Committee visited Radford High School for a period of three days. This Com- mittee, after working with the faculty and students, pointed out the outstanding fea- tures of the school, designated areas where equipment and facilities were lacking, and made constructive suggest- ions for improvements. The students of Radford High School are looking forward to the many spring events - baseball, track, District Music Festival, District Forensic Meet, Cheer- leader try-outs, and dance, Junior-Senior Prom, Campaigns and Installation Service, Senior Assembly, Baccalaureate Service, and Graduation. Yes, the echoes of 1958-59 have been many and have sounded loudly all through the year. The Studcnt Cooperatrxe A socratron made a big echo bx rexrsrng the entire stu dent goxernment of RHS The SCA lb now drxrded into three parts the Executive Committee made up of the elected SCA officers and class presrderrts the S C A has as rts members the elected offr ers and class representatnes and the Interclub Council composed of club and organr zatron presidents The Dramatrcs Club was admitted as a member rn the National Thespran Society Mr Flora pre ented the club charter For the first time rn sexeral years rep resentatrwes from some of the colleges rn Vrr grnra came to Radford and discussed with students college entrance requirements Diana Cox attended the second annual press contest sponsored by the Times Wor ld Corporation theme used by the New River District S C A at rts Noxember meeting held in Radford Dr M ledge Moffett guest speaker was the highlight of the meeting Two new clubs rorned the echoes at Rad ford High School The H1 X and the T11 H1 Y have standards based on high moral char acter and Christian principles The Student Patrol assumed added re sponsrbrlrtres for the safety of the students during the school day and passed new rules benefiting ex ery one Back To School Night gave the parents of students an opportunity to follow their sons and daughters schedules through a school day and to meet the high school faculty With Christmas rust around thi corner the Kes Club began work on Operatron Santa Claus The boys repfrrred and pamted old tors for distribution to the home rooms as gifts for the White Christmas boxes The Student Courrcrl sponsored White Christmas and presented Mrs Sublett with the gifts tor the needx rn the Christmas Assembly Just before the holidays the Dramatrcs Class and the Music Department produced Hou Many llzles to the Manger Emma Blex ins w as selected to portray the Madonna and Jack Kavrtz the part of Joseph The 1919 basketball season opened rn January The Junior Varsrty Team won 16 and lost only 9 games Jack Roberts and Joe Mannon hold high scoring honors The Varsrty Basketball Team won 8 games and lost 10 The Bobcats were one of the dist rrct top sixteen teams and participated rn the District Tournament Paul Mannon was elected captain We are proud of the fine records of the 1959 Basketball Teams The Senior Class resounded with echoes when several of this group recerved out by the D A R for the Good Crtrzenshrp Award and Frankye Sue Robertson recerved the Betty Crocker Homemakrng Award Mary Frances Vaughan w on the I Speak for Democracy contest and Ronnie Poberts was the American Legron Oratory Contest win ner Corwrn Matthews was the recipient of the James Bland Music Award Charlotte Hall was selected by the members of the EA A to reign as Queen of the Sweetheart a Johnny Cord John Ed Connor Pat Krr by Leo Henley Barbara Hale Corwrn Mat thews Jean Elliot and Marshall Wrrt rep resented RH S rn All State Chorus West Rat Kirby Corwrn Matthews Barbara Hale and leo Henley were chosen to attend the All Vrrgrnra Chorus Richard Dale was the representatrxe to All State Band The D O Club held rts nnual banquet at the Gox ernor Tyler Hotel Dr Sid Carp enter head of the Vocational Education De pfrrtment at VPI was the uest speaker Sponsored By WAII ACF S SMAR F11 E XR ' ' . .L . f . . . .N ' I - V- . 1 x L ' . . . - K ' , .
