SENIOR PLAY HOLD EVERYTHING Christopher Morgan, a successful banker, has set his heart on a match between his daughter, Connie, and Courtney Barret, the son of an old friend. Connie doesn’t like this plan and when she learns that Courtney is coming to visit her, she runs away. Her friend, Bee Williams, goes with her, and when the play opens, they are stopping at a tourist home for the night. There Connie meets a strange young man and an infatuation on the part of the young man ensues. In the meantime, Connie’s father, who has discovered her flight, starts off in pursuit of her, and when his car breaks down near the tourist home, he too decides to remain there over night. Two strange men arrive soon after with a mysterious bag, followed by another man who seems to be in pursuit of them. Connie hears that her father’s bank has been robbed but hesitates on telling her father. Early the next morning the two mysterious men with the bag, which the colored maid finds contains money, try to escape but the other man who turns out to be a detective catches them and recovers the money that was robbed from Mr. Morgan’s bank. When Connie learns the identity of the young man a reconciliation takes place and everybody lives happily ever after except the robbers, who spent a term in jail. . . RADFORD HIGH SCHOOL . . 23 THE CLASS HISTORY 1934- 35 As straight shooting braves and fair maidens we embarked on the rapidly moving streams of education to better learning. The most difficult part of this, our first year, was to adjust ourselves to the new environment. We came through with a good showing at Stunt Night, and in June we left with a more secure feeling than in September. 1935- 36 We again launched our canoes as Sophomores to make a great improvement over our first year. On Stunt Night we made a better showing by taking first prize. Feeling we had made our grade for the year, we rejoiced knowing we’d be farther on next year with the “lower classmen” looking up a little higher to us. 1936- 37 Now we are “upper classmen” and find it quite enjoyable. With the main- tenance of more speed for the swift journey, we find the canoes easier to paddle. Again Stunt Night is upon us and we sail off with first prize. Then there is the great feast, better known as the Junior-Senior banquet, given in the honor of our superiors. With the ending of another school year, we find that we have outgrown the papoose stage of 34 and ' 35. 1937- 38 The harbor is close at hand and our big year is here. All the happenings seem to have greater importance now. Our Senior rings, which we gaze on with admiration, came. This is the year for our big play and banquet in our honor. Stunt Night again and we fall below our expectations. The last week of school and the sending of invitations gives us a big thrill. We have a very short time before the Baccalaureate Sermon and graduation night. — It comes at last and we again embark upon a stream — a long, long one — the stream of life. — E. R. 24 ..THE 1938 OAK LEAF . . LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF THE CLASS OF 1938 We, the Senior Class of 1938, being of sound and disposing mind hereby make public and declare this to be our last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills being at any time made. Mac Graybeal leaves his dry wit to Sherman Hall. (Let’s hope he develops the other half.) Robert Wade unwillingly leaves his superiority complex to Betty Jones. Lellie Belle Ridenour leaves her “come hither” technique to Hilda Amonette. To Clara Jane Hines, Lorraine Foster leaves her leadership. Jeanne Dower bequeaths her efficiency to Dorothy T. Smith. 1 o Bob Barton, Howery Moore bequeaths his ability to play football and Robert Taylor’s qualities. Ed Batchelor leaves his dancing feet to little Walter Towe. Also he leaves his ability to grow a mustache to Bob Barton. June Lee Smith wills her ability to entertain out-of-town boys to Laura Belle Morehead. Evelyn Rotenberry leaves her Martha Raye mouth to her sister Dorothy. Bill Miller leaves his permanent wave to Herbert Godbey. Garnett Inge wills his seriousness to Martin Wright. John Morgan leaves his cradle (school) days to Eugene Slusher. Louise Clement leaves her stature to Lucy Boyer. Frances Stevens leaves her brass to Frances Nye. John Gibson leaves his surplus height to Bob Barton. Given this day, January 31, 1938, under our seal. The Senior Class of 1938 . .
