L 4 f 1+ if , if if 9 Oliicial Sequicenlennial Symbol During this, the 150th anniversary of Ohio's statehood our thoughts turn not only to the history of the state, but also the the history of education in Ohio and Racine The Northwest Ordinance of 1737 encouraged education by guaranteeing free public schools Ohio has advanced to a point where it now has more colleges and universities than any foreign nat on It has been said that Ohio educated America Progress in education in Racine was similar to that of the rest of the state A log school on the site of the present home of M les Cross was used previous to 182 In that year a brick build ing was constructed but so poorly that it was replaced by a frame building Two small one room school buildings were used next These were later moved together and served as a residence In the 1850's a four room school house was built on the oresent site and during the 1870's an annex was added This was replaced by the present building which was constructed in 1911 This served both as an elementary and high school until the consolidation of the surrounding schools made necessary the constructlng of the oresent h gh school in 1929 30 51Z,M,Zl7 9 . . . - 4 A .L U C . x - J. U A '-B . .- , gf' .,..A-L . xg M SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Q In September of 19 9 we entered Racine High School, with a class of sixty nine As was the usual custom, the Sophomore Class initiated and welcomed us with the 'Freshman Reception In our first class meeting we elected Larry Birch as our President, Fern Cozart, as our Vice Pres , and Joann Brewer, as Sec'y Treas After a short vacation, we began our second year at R H S with fifty six members of our class We initiated the 'Froshiesn and welcomed them with a reception For our leaders this year we chose as President, Fern Cozart, Vice Pres , Dwaine Casto, and Secfy Treas , Larry Birch Beginning our third year, as Juniors, with forty six our original classmates present, we elected the following as our class officers President, Elaine Codner, Vice Pres , Larry Birch, Sec'y Treas , Joann Brewer, and Business Manager Eileen Wickline To help pay for our Senior Trlp, we promoted a magazine campaign, and also presented a three act play entitled 'Cash and Carrie We went on a trlp to Marietta in the sprinb At last we are Seniors!
