The Music Man CAST Traveling Salesmen: Tim Wall, Mark Guitard, Brett Price, Mike Kolb, Chris Stewart 'iThe Music Man, written by Meredith Wilson and Franklin Lacey, is set in the year 4942. 'lThe Music Man tells of a traveling con artist, alias band director, who tries to sell the stubborn citizens of River City, Iowa, band instruments. However, The Music Man, professor Harold Hill, doesn't know a big brass bass from a pipe organ, yet usweet talks his way into the hearts of everyone and turns a sleepy town into a musical ex- travaganza. While in River City, he falls in love with Marian Paroo, the town's snooty librarian, played by Kella Wootton. The Music Man is one of the most famous Broadway productions to appear in New York, starring Robert Preston.
