DARK OF THE MOON This year ' s fall play was Dark of the Moon by Howard Richardson and William Berney. The story revolved around a witchboy named John who wanders into a mountain community and falls in love with a beautiful girl named Barbara Allen. The superstitious towns- people resent their happiness and by meddling, ruin the lives of John and Barbara. Snider Director Terry Tucker feels that the play shows an accurate reflection of the mountain people ' s cultural and religious ways of life. He added that Dark of the Moon was difficult to perform because some of the content deals with serious cultural matters so that the characters must be portrayed with a real sense of believabili- ty- Dark of the Moon was an enter- taining and unique drama for all. Sets were imaginatively executed by Mr. James Clauser, along with the Stagecraft classes. Mr. and Mrs. Allen discuss ways to get Barbara married. Gathered around the General Store, the townspeople talk about daily happenings. Uncle Smelicue reminisces about his younger days. John proves his strength to Marvin. John comes to the Allen ' s house to ask for Barbara ' s hand. 16
