BELOW: Mr. Grile prepares notes for a School Board meeting. Born on October 8, 1917 in Jay County, Indiana, Lester L. Grile has been witness to many changes. A graduate of Geneva High School (Class of 1935), Mr. Grile attended six colleges and universities. Along with his studies, Superintendent Grile served in the Armed Forces in both World War II and the Korean War. Prior to his nineteen year term as Superintendent, Mr. Grile worked in the Fort Wayne Community Schools System for twenty years. These twenty years included stints as Principal of South Side High School, Principal of Harrison Hill, and an Administrative Assistant to Mr. Lindley from 1955 to 1961. Then in 1961 Lester Grile became Superintendent. i 1 pjii] )l — 1 ABOVE LEFT: Mr. Grile poinU out where Snider is on the map of the Fort Wayne Community School System. ABOVE: Supt. A dedication to Lester L. Grile THE 1970 ' s The past ten years have come and gone and the decade of the 70 ' s is now history. But, like other periods of the past it is now a part of our American heritage. America entered the 1970 ' s still involved in the social and racial unrest of the late 1960 ' s. During the past ten years the people and institutions of America, including the students in our schools, and all levels of government have worked together to ease the emotions that clouded our activities and our thinking. By the time the 1970 ' s closed it was evident that there was more careful thinking and more careful searching for solutions to our problems. Because the 1970 ' s were years of readjustment we now move into the 1980 ' s with confidence, with hope, and with a renewal of the belief in our America and what it stands for. Having experienced first hand the trials and the stresses of the 1970 ' s, I appreciate the signs that I see which indicate a stabilizing of our society. There has been a resurgency of hope for a better future. The young people who are in our high schools today may move from our secondary schools into higher education and into employment in an atmosphere which is much more conducive to s uccess and hapiginess. frile Superintendent of Schools Unlike most busy executives, Mr. Gr ile makes his own appointments.
