Changes in Fort Wayne Changes — changes in our lives, changes in our city. When we remember the decade that was the 70 ' s, we ' ll remember the changes. We started the 70 ' s as little kids. We grew; we changed. Fort Wayne grew and changed with us. Then suddenly we looked around and we barely recognize ourselves, or our city. We ' re lost when we look for the old familiar landmarks. Gone are whole rows and blocks of houses and stores. There are deep holes on the corners of Main Calhoun, Jefferson Clinton. In their places rise a skyscraper, a hotel, a parking garage, or a park. But the changes symbolize growth — new buildings, new directions for Ft. Wayne. Looking back on the seventies, we ' ll remember it as a time of changes for us, for Fort Wayne. I a ABOVE: A replica of the Old Fort was built near the site of the original on the banks of the St. Mary ' s River. LEFT: On Main Street, Fire station 1 added a touch of modern architecture to the downtown area. BELOW LEFT: The city ' s main shopping center, Glenbrook, already expanded, was again enlarged to keep up with the growth of the city. BELOW RIGHT: Motorists found a new fuel at the pump to help ease dependence on foreign oil. 1 ' ■-■ ;
